ZX10R Dealer Cost
Hey all,
I have been doing some calling around trying to get some decent pricing in my area. I spoke to a few dealers and one mentioned that my price was so low (cough cough) that it was almost selling at dealer cost. So I asked what dealer cost was.
He said:
$9,500.00 Dealer Cost
$135.00 Shipping (from Kaw to dealer)
$35 Setup (who knows what this means)
$9670.00 "Actual Dealer Cost"
While I am sure there is probably some sort of dealer holdback (like with cages) its probably not so far from the truth (meaning the bike isnt $6,000.00).
Anyone know how close to the truth that is?
I got one out of state quote (im in CT) for $9,720.00 (I pay taxes 6% & registration $200 when I get home) OTD. This makes my ride away price after tax & reg to be $10,503.20. Granted this is a 12 hour round trip to get the bike.
My local dealer offered me $9,900 (hes in CT) so it works out to $10,700.00 with taxes & reg. There doesnt seem to be a way to get around that 6% taxes & the $200.00 regisration fee that DMV wants.
Think that sounds like a decent price?

It sounds good to me, the best I got is 10,640 otd. And its just down the road from me.

Sounds fairly accurate. Best OTD price I've gotten so far is $9752, minus Registration Fee and State sales tax.

Sounds good. I would think for spending $196.80 more and not having to drive 12 hours, you'd give your local dealer the biz. Probably be more than worth it in the long haul...

I agree about buying locally. Aside from who wants to spend 12 hours driving in a cage & spending probably the savings on gas & wear & tear, local is better & easier (rather have the dealer deal with DMV).
I was just wondering if 9900 is the right price, it seems I could do a little better, or it seems that others are doing a bit better (granted still in that 200 dollar range).

Those numbers for the actual dealer cost don't jive with what I was told they are - but my numbers may be pre-$300 price increase.
I think a fair quote before taxes etc would be right around $9900, based on my understanding of the invoice and shipping and assembly credit.
This bike will be a popular model, and Sport Rider just did their part to insure that, so we may have to pay more. I'm going to offer just about what you posted, and I'll tell everyone how I did.

Last time I used it it cost $10 to get the dealer cost. I was told all dealers pay the same price and the product allotment is based on prior year sales. Don't know for sure but two Suzuki dealers basically told me the same thing.

I'm from Boston but I ordered from a dealer in Ohio, my out the door price was $9558.25 plus another $250 to ship the bike to Boston. Even with shipping this price about 1400 less that dealers up here

Honda East Toledo...They have raised their prices since (I locked mine in back in January) but they had some incredible out the door...and I mean REAL out the door prices of $9558.25 for 04 ZX10's; 9057.25 for 04 GSXR1000's; 8333.25 for 04 GSXR 750's and I believe the R1's were @ 9200 or 9300. A few friends checked last week and I believe ZX10's are up around MSRP and R1's are at $9952. While it may be a little late to get really cheap deals now, I'd recommend keeping them in mind for any future purchases. But hey give them a call it never hurts to try.

I got the the one from Cyclecost.
I don't know how accurate the thing is...but it sounds reasonable...also if I was a dealer I would not hesitate in trying to get a decent profit from this hot bike--I go in it with that understanding--for me to be one of the first ones to get the bike I understand that I will be paying a bit more then if for say I get it in September/october. Haven't finalized a deal yet but I'm pretty close. One thing that I wonder about is the List price...some places I hear it's $10699 and other places including Kawi's site it's $10999.... Oh well...enjoy.

It seems to me that the info is about 300 dollars out of date. Maybe from when the price of the bike when from 10699 to 10999 during the winter.
So if we tack on 300 bucks to the "ready to sell cost" its 9524.
The 5% of list is $549.00
5 % of dealer invoice (with the 300 dollar deal) is $476
Where does that fit into the dealer cost?
The way that info reads is a little confusing. One would think the ready to sell cost would include the dealer holdback.
Does that mean the "dealer cost" listed is with or without the holdback?
I am confused but KZ thanks for the information.
Any dealers want to verifiy the information?

pardon me for being a moron.... I've had a glass or 2 of wine here and I am having a hard time understanding "dealer holdback" (even though it is kinda explained up above...)
can someone clearly explain this concept?
Also... does this same pricing structure transfer worldwide? ie... can someone in Canada simply do a currency conversion with those figures? Australia?

holdback is an allowance to offset dealer paid finance charges for machines they purchase from the manufacturer. This fee is basically pure profit in cases where the machine does not sit on their lot as they are being paid for finance charge accruals that never happened.
So if you picking up a bike that just arrived, you can technically negotiate down by the amount of the hold back as the manufacturer will pay it to them down the road.
Of course they will likely laugh at you and sell it to the next guy on the list as is the case with any hot ticket item.
Holdback negotiation only really work on very plentiful or slow moving machines when you are taking it off their hands withing the first month.
