An hour long read - Redelk's ZX10R review

Unknown to me, forums have a 100,000 character limit. I apologize for the story being cut off like it was. I have deleted the original post and have reposted it below in two parts.

The more info the better, and appreciate your time in putting this together.

Couple quick notes. When you were referring to suspension action on highway joints and such, that would actually be the high speed compression circuit not the low speed compression circuit. High speed is what normally contributes to twitchness. The sharper the bumps the faster the wheel travels vertically, hense high speed, conversely rolling pavement or sweepers causing low wheel speeds and damped by the low speed circuit (the part the adjuster works).

I am amazed to hear you indicate that they were for "average rider" weight of 150lbs. My question would be, did KMC tell you the weight, or are you going by common folklore that most of us who are old timers do that they are developed by 150lb test riders in Japan. I ask as though I did not have your opportunity, the ZX I threw a leg over had the stiffest suspension of any bike I have sat on, including my old racebike that had .95 front springs with added compression. I sat on and bounced 2 different 10's at the bay area show and my 170lbs could barely move the suspension. Kiddingly I told my friends it seems like it setup for a 250lb+ rider, so its ironic that is about what you weigh. Maybe the pre-production bikes were different, but the Kawi representatives there had no information or ability to answer questions.

I am new here, so please dont take this as any kind of criticism. I am just curious as I was considering the 10, but initially ruled it out as based on the 2 I tried showing that a full suspension rework would be necessary for me. Just curious if they sorted that out on production versions.

Thanks

Erich - it is set-up for 150 lb rider. But remember, it's a pure sportbike. So it's a very stiff set-up for a fast 150 lb guy. I'm 190, and ride fast. It was soft for me, but that's the way I like it. Plus, the suspension was not broken in yet. So between setting the sag and doing some preload and clicking, I would be perfectly happy with it. Again, I like soft suspension that allows the tires and frame to "talk" to me more. Just personal preferance.

Thanks KB. Having raced AFM since '97, I am pretty aquanted with set-up, so I will have to bank on the idea that the bikes that you folks rode are entirely different to the show bikes that were up here. Its a possibility anyway.

Like you I like the suspension to be as soft as it can be provided it keeps proper chassis attitude and control.

Hopefully some folks will get these soon and we will get a chance to disect their suspensions to find out what really went into them.

Cheers.

Yeah, I printed it too, took it home, I was a little angry to find out I didn't have all of the post. I can only liken it to the feeling that guy must have experienced in that movie 'The Crying Game'. All amped up to find out someone switched the parts around. I would have liked to have been able to finish the whole article in the same sitting mannnnnnnn!!!

Thanks for the time you put into it, I know you are probably still pumped from the ride. I don't think I would have been to comfortable splitting lanes in the rain on someone elses bike either.
