Sat on an 04 ZX6RR (is it like sitting on a 10?)
Yikes, that was really an aggressive tight cramped position on the 6RR. I know thats supposed to be a racing 600 but wow, im a little short at 5'6 & I thought it was cramped as hell. I couldnt imagine someone taller than me on that bike.
So while I heard that the seating positions on the 6RR & the 10R were similar, I really hope not, cause that 6RR was hurting my wrists just sitting on it at the dealer.
Man, I wish these 10's would show up so I could have a seat, or better yet, I wish I went to the bike show this year & sat on a 10 their.
Anyway, anyone have any comments? That 6RR is just not comfy at all. Is the 10 gonna be the same way?

Where to start? I'm talking about 2003/2004 models here, not earlier ones.
The 6RR has better seat-tank shape and feel than either the 6R or the 10R. The ergos on the 6RR I find to be friendly and open - I'm 5'11, and built like a linebacker.
I think it may be a case of what you're used to for wrist weight. Remember the fairing will direct smooth air into your chest to push you up unless you're trying to tuck under it.
The 6R has a straighter drop down to the bars from my shoulders than either the 6RR or 10R does; I think the seat on the 6R cants me more forward than the other two do.
My only complaint with the 10Rs ergos is that the edge of the tank digs into my thigh when I'm hanging off to the side (as much as you can hang off when the bike is at a bike show and there are 30,000 people watching what you do on a motionless bike). I am thinking of getting a leather pad sewn into my leathers at that spot (it's stretch kevlar there on the leathers I'm planning on buying).
The 10R is not a touring motorcycle - some people, tougher than I, have gone long distances on a 636 with soft luggage, so it can be done, but I would hate to mar the paint and clutter up the lines on the 10R with soft bags. I think I can stay on the bike for about 4 hours at a shot - get to the twisties, roost about for a while, have lunch, roost, then go home.
Does this help?

Well, I did over 300 miles on a 10R, with no cramping and my wrists felt fine. 6'1", 34" inseam.

As KZ2ZX said, its tough to sit on a bike when you have a bunch of people watching you sit on a bike. I was out in PA this weekend sitting on a 6RR & the 636, the 636 was more comfortable but not as comfy as my 2000 6R. I know that the newer sportbikes are going to become ever so aggressive but maybe its also that I am a lightweight rider (I dont put so much mileage on my bikes).
Most "trips" for me are 50 mile roundtrip trips. On a sunday maybe I would put on 120 miles at most (split into a few smaller miles).
I sat on an 2003 R1 & thought it was much more comfortable than the 2004 6RR/636.
Granted, having a "600" sized bike that has 1000 CC's (10R) would be really nice, but I am concerned about the ergos.
Plus I am 5'6 & have a 28 inch inseam.
I dont mind riding bikes and not being able to flatfoot, I am a bit more concerned with comfort though. Main problem being that the wrist hurts.
What I am afraid of is to buy a bike so uncomfortable that I dont ride as much. I am not a "tourer" at all, & probably would be considered a wussy for my creature comfort concerns.
Fortunately I only whine online.
I took a ride on an R1 this weekend for about 20 minutes, it was a lot of fun & a ton of power. Now I see how you 1000 CC people say that your bikes are less forgiving.
Anyway I am not exactly sure what you mean by seat-tank shape. What did you mean by that.

The area where the seat and tank meet 'fits' my legs better on the 6RR; it's sort of concave where the 10R sort of has an edge, and it's all right there on the inner thigh where the seat and tank meet.

Sitting on the 10R is very similar to sitting on the R1 to me. I rode my friends R1 for 10 months while he was stationed in Egypt, nice bike. I really enjoyed the way it takes a turn, but the nervous front end can create a requirement for spare underwear. After the installation of the Hyperpro strearing damper, things quieted down a lot.
I can hardly wait for the 10R to come in, if it feels and handles like the R1 and has the power that it's reported to have I'll be smiling for a good long time. The 12R has power that is sometimes scary the way it comes on, but I won't sell it and my 9RR handles fairly well for a bike of that time, but to be able to ride one machine and get the sensation of both would be something else all together. I have never a Gixxer 1000, should have taken the oportunity when I had it though. Oh well, back to work.
Peace,
JB

Yeah, it's one old bird ('96 model), but she is still fun to ride. I could use a new rear shock for her, I had looked at Penski. Haen't decided yet, with the 10R coming I might have to drop the insurance though, Nationwide is stating $500 annually and with the 12R at $465 annaully I'll need to drop something that won't be ridden much...
