email virus from "staff@bikeland.org"
Well.. they are getting trickier... I just got an email spoofing our own url... it reads
quote: Hello user of Bikeland.org e-mail server,
Some of our clients complained about the spam (negative e-mail content)
outgoing from your e-mail account. Probably, you have been infected by
a proxy-relay trojan server. In order to keep your computer safe,
follow the instructions.
Pay attention on attached file.
The Management,
The Bikeland.org team http://www.bikeland.org
anyways.... it's just another virus being mailed from someone so if you get it then delete it...
Very creative... They would be more convincing if their grammar was better!
(btw... the address "staff@bikeland.org" doesnt exist in case yer wondering)

chances are only those with bikeland.org addresses received that virus, so prolly no concern to most members here.
for those that do not know (which is many if not most), the "From" address displayed on an email by no means guarantees the origin of the email. You can set the from address to whatever u want, which is exactly what virii do. as they go along frmo computer to computer, they collect any addresses from infected comptuers and use them to send out emails. If you get an email "from" joe@somdomain.com, chances are pretty good that joe is not actaully infected, but someone who once sent him an email or received an email frmo him, is.
There's a pretty simple way to avoid virii btw, DON'T OPEN ATTACHMENTS!! It is often that easy. Picture attachments (gif, jpeg) are safe to open, word documents, pif, scr, exe, and a host of others, are not. As an added measure, get some anti-virus software and fer sanity's sake keep it up to date! don't wanna pay for any? AVG makes an excellent free version available at http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php

Also note don't believe that the source is actually from that domain, it's easy to make an email appear to be from any address or domain but actually it's not. I've had people tell me that dontbescaredracing.com is sending out virus emails from accounts that dont even exist on my domain! It's spoofing, and the source was actually somewhere in Australia however it just appeared to be from my domain. Like mentioned above, use a good antivirus software like Symantec and simply delete emails from unknown sources. I also recommend using Microsoft Outlook 2003 as an email client because of it's incredibly effective antispam features built-in!

RAC4IT is right about domain spoofing being trivial. I rec'd some of the virus mails talked about above and I've only been a member here a week. Didn't affect me as I don't use Windows. Here's an excellent article on mail clients, one of the criterias is spam filtering:
