What is a slipper clutch?

Hi,

I am a little confused about the slipper clutch. Does it allow you to shift without using a clutch? How is that useful?

Thanks,
Rich

No. It allows you to downshift rapidly, letting out the clutch and not having the back wheel skip. The clutch 'slips' and prevents too much engine backtorque from sliding the rear wheel.

So if you were in 5th gear & pulled the clutch in, then downshifted to 2nd gear & let go of the clutch, the rear end wouldnt jump (& fling me off?)

Will the engine still overrev?

I am a little lost (can ya tell)
