ZX10R Release date

Friend of mine called Kawasaki last week and asked when the 10 would be in the showrooms. They told him mid-April. Does anyone have any better news than that? Uh,bill, HI.

the following day Roadracing World released breaking news that the 10's would land in the U.S. february 24th and be sent immediately to dealers. Also that there would be demo rides at Daytona.

This is all accurate since the initial date was for december and then it was said to be delayed 60 days which makes february 24th accurate. Now I hope my color arrives at my dealer first. Hecht, I'll even take my 2nd choice. I sure hope winter ends early this year. Yahoooooooo........

I just got back from Westside Motorsports here in Spokane, WA and Les told me they ordered twelve ZX-10R's and Kawi is only giving them three total, he doesnt even know the color until they come in.

He said they should have the first one the last week of March, and one more each month for the next two months. He said Kawi, Yamaha, and Honda all with their 1-liter bikes are limiting their availibility so they can sell them full MSRP.

I looked at his Dealer sheet when he wasnt looking and it looked like the dealer's cost on the zx-10r was 10397, but that seems high cause I thought the ZX-12R was dealerd at around 9500. Thats just what I read though....it showed the 10397 also for the 04 12.

Kickbacks, Holdbacks, Ichiban rating, etc. On a hot model, if you pay MSR OTD, you're doing ok.

Like I've said before, I'm paying a dealership 10k out the door and he didn't bat an eye when I offered it. That's an out of state deal, hence no taxes or other state charges. So what do you figure the dealer is paying for these things? 92 to 93 hundred? I'm not sure but I think we're pretty close on those numbers.

Ichiban rating is determined by how each dealer does in total sales each quarter against other dealership in their region. At the end of the year, the top sales dealer will be recognized as a "Gold Ichiban", the second place a "Silver Ichiban" and so on. Besides having the title as #1 in sales for their region, the only other benefit is basically the dealer gets a all expense paid trip to some place nice.

Ichiban standings have no bearing on when a dealer will recieve their bikes, how many they will get in total or what the dealer's actual cost of said units would be. To do so would be illegal. In the late 90's, Polaris was sued by a group of their dealers over the fact that their "Star Rated" dealers were getting better floor plans and more co-op money, than the "Non-Star Rated" dealers. It created an unlevel "playing field" giving an unfair advantage to the top sellers. The dealers either won the case or it was settled out of court.

The bottom line is that ALL Kawasaki dealers will have basically the same dealer cost, the holdback amounts and shipping costs are equal among all, no matter what there sales totals were for the previous year. Again, any difference in how the dealers receive, the amount they pay or what type of floor plan arrangements they get on any model MUST be equal to that of any other authorized Kawasaki dealer. At least in the U.S., to do it any other would land KMC in court so fast, it'd make their collective heads spin.

I can't speak for Honda, but I can say that Honda's "new" ordering and floor plan for their ATVs is beyond insane. It's a long story, but ask your local Honda dealer about "storage space rental".

i called Kawasaki today, yup, mid April now not Feb 24th. They didn't give specific reasons but said something about logistics. The seat cowl according to Rick in customer service will cost $100.12 "suggested retail". I called (949)460-5688. Yes I would like that dealer's address and phone number if he has one already thanks.

Interesting how the Honda and Kawasaki dates are falling into the same timeframe. And those two are the most exciting new bikes to me.

What....no excitement for the new R1? Did they have a new R1 at the Seattle Moto Show this last December?
