Just got home the bikeshow in Atlanta and after seeing the two bikes side by side it seems unrealistic to even compare the two their not even in the same class. By the way HONDA SUX MAJOR ASS they had the new 1000 up on a damn pedistal like some king that you couldn't touch whats up with that shit.

Subract about 30hp from that ZX10 figure and you'd be in the ball park.
Obviously with 100lbs less of fat.. the 10 could be alil' faster.. but with 3" less wheelbase.. dont count on it.

Similar mods as HDL - 182 RWHP. Before custom map, same dyno - 177 RWHP. Never dyno'ed stock. With just a pipe, Y2K's timing mod (about +2~2.5 degrees) and a resistor in the water temp circuit - 174 RWHP on a DJ150.
RWHP dyno runs of the ZX-10R indicate somewhere around 150~152 RWHP. The 10R's torque is in the high 70's while stock 12R's are in the low 90's.
Mildly modified (no internal engine work) 12Rs have seen in excess of 100 ft/lbs., but average high 90's. LKM's highly modified 10R saw 177.5 RWHP and 88.9 ft/lbs.
I figure a 10R with a slip on, filters, PCIIIR would hit around low 170's in HP and low 80's in torque. being 100 lbs lighter, the 10R will likely keep up with a 12R for the first few tenths of a mile, but the extra torque of the 12R just might make up for the weight difference. Just MHO.

The 184 quoted for the 10R is at the crank with ram air, my stock 12R made 168 at the rear wheel, now it's 185.
We cant compare crank measurements of one bike with the rear wheel power of another. And trusted if the 10 runs like or better than a gixxer 1000, once it gets out in front of a Busa or 12, it's going to take a whole lot of road to catch it.

hitman,
i agree we can't compare crank hp w/r wheel hp; JUST like we can't reliably compare dyno pulls on different dynos, or even the same dyno on a different day. Your stock 12 185hp is great for bragging rights, but I sure wouldn't take that 185 "to the bank" against a 1270 which also generally makes about 185-190hp on most dynos.
For me, the only reliable comparison of hp is 2 bikes at the same 1/4 track, same day, same weight bike + rider.
highest mph = highest hp. ____________

I AGREE BUT BOTH NEED TO BE STOCK OR SAME MODS.

THIS IS NOT STOCK (HITMAN)(my stock 12R made 168 at the rear wheel 185hp after mods)

OK but stock vs stock 1270 Is not stock which would be a unfair avanatage put a 1270 kit on a ZX10R WOW!!

Widow I didn't say that my bike was stock now, at 168 Hp it was totally bone stock. Those days are long over................

Think of it this way, sence we dont have accurate rear wheel power figures for the zx-10r.
The zx12r is 463 lbs dry.
The zx10r is 373 lbs dry.
A 90# weight difference.
The 12r is typically 163 rwhp.
1 hp = 7 lbs
90 lbs/7=12.8 hp Lets just say 13 hp.
So a 10r with 150 rwhp should be about equal in acceleration with riders of equal weight.
Now take a well tuned zx12r at 180 rwhp and the zx10r will need 167 rwhp with riders of equal weight.
However, the hp below 8000 rpm of a 12r is much higher than the 10r so it wont look as good for the 10r when you dont JUST use peak hp numbers, but concider the whole rpm band like on the street.

Thought the dry weight on a 12 was 476. That was dry as in no oil, shock fluid, gas, battery acid, body paint, cush bearings or tires...But I could be wrong. ;0

I'd guess about 13 to 15 HP difference at 8K RPMs

I'm jealous The ZX-10 looks like it's going to be the bike I always wanted. Unfortunately, I'm buying a house and money will be in short supply for awhile. Guess I'll just have to do my best to keep up on my 212 rwhp 1361 ____________

I also went to the bike show in Atlanta. I happened to run into Ricky Gadson and we had a comparison talk about the 12 and the 10. He explained that the 10 that they have been testing for two years! was making 165 from the back tire. (Yeah me too I thought it just came out ) A stock twelve he said should make around 163. The 12 weight is around 463 and the 10 around 375. He also added that he ran a 9.11 in the quarter stock on the 10. No mods are made for it yet he explained. Now granted, this is Ricky Gadson so I would have to adjust the time for my riding.
I am in the market for a new bike since I just totalled my 03 12 recently so say the least, I am still confused as hell. I like the look of both bikes with the exception of the new 12 colors. The silver color in my opinion had to much black on it. Made it look dull to me. They didnt have a blue so I cant comment. The black 10 is beautiful!!!! But I can always make the 12 look just as good or better. So say the least, I am still undersided about which to get. I think I'll just wait a while to see if the numbers on the 10 are accurate and not just a sales tool.
Also Ricky Gadson also mentioned that the clutch is a slip clutch. Which he explained that to get a good 60 foot, you have to modify it so you can feather the clutch to keep it down.
