Today's Test & Tune session
OK, so things are kinda slow around here. So, I figured I'd spice things up a bit and tell y'all about my test and tune session today at Sacramento Raceway.
First of all, here's my bike with the Adams arm finally installed.

The day started out bad. I got the bike off the trailer to find that I had a drained battery. Luckily, one of the boys came by with a generator and charger for me to borrow. It actually worked out well since we didn't get started until noon since it was way too cold in the morning.
Now, just a little background, this was the first time since installing my wheelie bars that I have done such a drastic change to my setup. It was like starting over. This is what was different:
1. 7" extended swingarm
2. 17/55 (3.235) gearing - changed from 16/48 (3.00)
3. Longer and wider wheelie bars

OK, so going into the first run, I knew that I was going to be totally clueless on my setup and launch technique. I decided to take it easy and run with the following setup:
- 9500 rpm launch
- 11,500 rpm shifts
- 9.5 psi in the rear tire
How did it go? Not good. As soon as I dropped the clutch, the bike drifts hard to the right. I let off the gas a bit and get it straight again. I started on the inside of the lane and finished on the outside. Spinning the rear tire really bad.
I ended up with a 1.59 60-ft, which was relatively promising considering the fact that I spun off the line so badly.
I got back to my pit area and looked at the wheelie bar wheels. One of them was white, and one was black. Yup, sure enough. The reason why the bike drove so fast to the right on the launch was because my wheelie bars were not straight enough.
Needless to say, I fixed that before the next run.

Long story short, I finally found my baseline setup for my current wheelie bar height:
- 8.5 psi tire pressure
- 8200 rpm launch
I gotta say that it took a few runs to get used to the 1-2 shift coming on so fast. I was just about in 3rd gear before I could get my feet on the pegs.
All-in-all, it was a good day. I accomplished my goal of at least finding my baseline for the Hangover Drags on New Years Day. I'll be racing at Sears Point instead of Sacramento, but the launch traction is relatively close, so I'll be able to find the right setup before eliminations.
Now, I gotta go hook up my batter to the charger and go buy a battery tender.

I don't see why it wouldn't. Do you know something that I don't?

Thanks for the reminder. I need to order some spare shift forks from Ron Ayers just in case.

Oh, ok. I'm not worried about it. They are pushing quite a bit more horsepower through the tranny than I am. I'm only running a 7" slick. Pro-stock uses a 10" slick. That can do quite a bit more damage to the tranny.
The only thing I'm worried about is bending shift forks with the air shifter.

There is a Huge diffrence between a Pro-stock ZX-12 and a stock motor bike with a 7" slick.
but all and all Wannabe, it would be good to check it out and see how it looks.

Thanks guys, I forgot to mention that my 60-ft numbers are now in the 1.47 range....and that was on a track with little to no traction. I'm looking forward to seeing what she'll do when things warm up a bit.

What's funny is that I was bullshitting with one of the other guys at the track, and I called it my 'man-sized sprocket.' He he turned around and showed me his 40-tooth rear sprocket and said, "It may not be a 'man-sized' sprocket, but it takes a man-sized motor to turn that little sprocket."
He got me on that one.
In case you're wondering. He was on a turbo busa running low 8's @ 180 mph.
