A slider is the shiznit but illegal for most competitive classes in drag racing. If you're building a money making street racer, it's the only way to go.

Real nice piece but it is only meant for a wheelie bar bike or Outlaw class.

I have a slider on my GS dragbike..I got the whole bike..1428cc, good turbo, push button start, etc., etc. for.............$3,400.00. A new slider alone will set you back close to half that figure.

On Edit: Perhaps even half that figure

Jim Carroll Road my stock motor zx12 in Gainsville Florida. with the MTC slider in it. In 19 passes it had a consistant 60ft. 1.42 -1.46 every pass.
Very easy on all the equipment. The clutch looked great. This is a great peice by MTC.

By the way, 1.42 short times is damn good. Are you using a bar and slick?

Sorry, Rich. I just realized that everyone seems to be ignoring your questions. This slider is a pure centrifugal clutch. In other words, the arms gradually increase their pressure on the clutch plates as your transmission picks up speed. Usually, for dragracing you set it to completely lock up as fast as possible without blowing your rear tire loose. You just twist the throttle and go. It's not exactly an auto transmission because this is not something that you would want to use on the street because the clutch only releases when the engine speed gets below your clutch stall speed. So, if your throttle sticks open, you're gonna have some fun. (Actually, you can just kill the engine, but it's still a scary ride.)

The main advantage to a slider is better 60-foot times. Everyone says that you're supposed to get better reaction times too, but I don't agree. Everyone I've seen who switched to a slider had worse lights. But, then again, that could be just them getting used to using the throttle to launch instead of just throwing the clutch lever away.

Another advantage of the slider is that it is so good for your transmission. It gradually locks up. It doesn't just slip slip...then bang your hooked up. It's really gradual.

Please note, I have never used a slider personally...but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

One big advantage is you can set up a two step with it and leave off of a button. With practice, more consistent lights are possible.

Oh yeah, hotrod. I totally forgot about that. To elaborate for Rich, you use your two-step rev limiter to hold your revs right around 400-500 rpms below your stall speed and just peg your throttle at the launch. You would launch by just taking your finger off the button.

This is similar to what I'm doing now. The biggest difference is that I'm launching at 9500 rpm. With the slider, I would be launching at around 5000 rpm.

Thanxxxx Guys.... When I said automatic transmission the thought in my head was like a stall converter in a car... At certain rpm just locks up...

Thanxxx for all the info..

Also, a little more info on the slider. Most people say that you don't want to use a slider on a turbo bike because they are somewhat contradictory. The slider likes to launch at lower rpms while you need to launch at higher rpm with the turbo to have some boost pressure built up.

Boy, I am full of random drag-race information that I may never use.
