I need your opinion on wheelie bar mounts
OK, called Coby Adams about his arm, and his pricing is pretty good. But, I came up with a different option that I'd like to hear your opinions on.
Here's my setup right now:

I have 2 issues:
1. I want to increase the wheelbase by about 6" for better weight transfer.
2. I'm tired of the fact that the lower wheelie bar mounts are connected to the chain adjustment brackets. This is a pain because every time I adjust my chain tension or change the rear sprocket, the wheelie bars height changes.

My original solution was to just go ahead and buy a Coby Adams arm just like the one on Chip Ellis' bike and modify my wheelie bars to fit. The other option that I just thought of is to buy a set of the bolt-on extensions from Doug @ Spencer Cycle and weld on the wheelie bar mounts from Pingel. This would be a much cheaper alternative, but I'm not all that sure that it'll be strong enough.
Here's the bolt-on extensions from Doug's site:

Here's the wheelie bar mounts from Pingel:

It looks like Coby Adams just welded these onto the swingarm on Chip's bike.
I'm just wondering if welding these onto the bolt-on extensions would put way too much stress on the stock spindle mounts. I have no qualms about the bolt-ons being strong enough by themselves. I just don't know if they would be strong enough to take the torque from the force pushing on an extra 60" of wheelie bar behind it.
What do you guys think?

I chose the bars mostly for consistency. They helped my TFA butt win 2 races already this year. Not bad for my rookie season. I don't think that I could have gotten this consistent this fast without them.

Buy Dougs bolt ons & make your own bar mounts,
then weld em to the bolt ons & your set.
If you want to make it stock.
Unbolt the whole set up & ride.

Do it the right way and let us do you a arm and weld those mount on the extended arm for you.
I would NEVER recommend you add bolt ons then add wheelie bars and on top of that weld to the bolt ons for wheelie bar mounts....WAAAY to much strees going on there when launching.
I am not being rude.....to you....just want to make it VERY CLEAR DO NOT do this and if you want to you are taking a BIG risk.

Thanks Doug. Don't worry. I didn't think you were being rude. I figured that it wasn't a good idea. I just wanted someone else to give me a second opinion.

I have been checking into the same thing.
I have a stock arm that I had a SBM 6" weld in ext. on to it. I call SBM and asked them about putting bar mounts on the ext. if that would cause a problem? He said that if I added strut mounts from the ext. to the sub-frame that I should have no problem.
The other thing is if you stretch the arm you have to buy a new chain and stretch the chain guard. Just something to think about.
Let me know what you do..
Go to TrackDynamics web site and look at there arms with the built in Wheelie bar mounts. A aluminum 10" over arm with wheelie bar mount built in is about $1250. it also weight about half as much as a stock arm.

Joe,
I actually started with TracDynamics. Here's the quote they gave me for a 6" over with the wheelie bar mounts and a couple of extras:
arm is $995.00
b-p/coat $145.00 (this is black powdercoat)
air tank $59.00 (this is to pressurize the swingarm)
nos $79.00 (this is just the NOS bottle bracket)
billet w-bar ends $200.00 (this is for the wheelie bar mounts)
Thanks for the heads up about the strut mounts from the extension to the sub frame. I totally didn't think about that. Right now, I'm leaning toward Coby's 6" over arm with the Pingel wheelie bar mounts welded onto the arm.
By the way, dang, Joe. We seem to be thinking exactly alike just about every step of the way. That's cool.
