MadMike - clutch question
Mike,
I thought I saw somewhere you mentioned that you do not use the skinny fiber (and those 2 flat "springs) that go on the engine side of the clutch. Is this correct Any comments?
I am putting new plates in and want to do it your way if I understand you right. The prob is that I don't have a good condition skinny one, but have plenty of regular fibers.
Thanks,
Karl

Yes your are Correct!!
Well I do not use the spring and smaller inner fiber! I dont know if you rember earlier in the year when I was saying that I had a loud noise almost a clicking in my clutch area? well what had happened the small fiber had shattered into about 15 pcs, and then the spring was wearing into my Muzzy Hub, well it actually wore a grove one one side of the hub, so anytime I put another small fiber in it would click from them hitting unevenly! so I just pulled it out(I think I spoke with someone on this and they said to do it, cant rember who though). Well I have been doing this for over half of the year and I havent noticed any diffrence! it launchs hard! and havent had a broken fiber since? The only reason that spring is in there is to remove chatter and with the Muzzy hub that is almost eleminated anyway. and actually even though slight, it is more gripping area, and from what the Old Biker dude's tell me your inner fiber will go first If your dropping the bomb hard on your clutch! the more you slip it the more the center fibers wear? that is kind of what I have seen. and just a short note, Im working on something new, would you like to be my test Drag Junkie!(the weather does not allow me to do it) LOL.. it is a new clutch part, well kind of? Ill email you the info, it is still a few weeks out. cool.

Thanks for the info, I will definitely pull the springs and replace the skinny fiber with a normal one.
If you have clutch mods you wanna test, I'm your man! Houston Raceway is down for holidays after next Fri, then starts up again the 2nd week in Jan and winter weather is usually good.
Must be a bitch having your tracks closed for months, eh?
