PC/Resistor questions for the smart guys..

Have a couple questions and can we keep the answers basic cause I am not very good with the pc's..

If I put my Powercommander back on my bike with its map I had custom map I had made.

Say I want to make a NOS run... Will adding the resistor still add more fuel???? Or will the powercommander take over the job and not let the resistor add fuel???....

I don't want to get into the whole making different maps and shit....

I have a plug in resistor that I can plug and unplug...
But will it work with the pc on the bike???

Hope this makes sense... Thanxxxx Guys...

Sure it should still work. The resistor just tricks the bike into thinking its colder than it is, giving it more fuel. With the PC it will just add whatever amount more or less your mapping calls for ONTOP of what the resistor mod is doing..

It has been debated many times on what the PC3 actually does to the fuel signal sent from the ECU of the bike. However what has been proven is that the PC3/PC3R values are actually ADDED (or subtracted depending on what you enter in) to what is sent from the ECU.

So...say at 10000RPM and 100% throttle the ECU says to add X amount of fuel. And at that cell on your PC3 map you have to add 25% fuel to that. Then you will get X + 25%.

As Johnny said...Its best to make your own custom nitrous map by modifying the 100% throttle column. I personally have +45% in every cell from 6500 up to 12000. Now granted..if you ever try to run on motor you will be down on power..and risk fouling your plugs as well (especially if you run one range cooler).

As for the resistor...this actually fools the ECU into thinking the temp is different than it actually is...thus causing the ECU to richen up the bike over 100% of the RPM/Throttle range. This will cause you to run righ everywhere and will seriously hurt mileage (but who cares if you are at the track right?). Now if you add the PC3 map on top of that...the ECU is already richening up the mixture due to the resistor mod...the PC3 will just add (or subtract) to that based on the values you input.

and yes..you could insert the resistor and richen up the mixture whenever you choose.

I found it alot easier to get a Palm Pilot and store multiple maps in there...change them in about 10 seconds for whatever you need to do

The only concern I would have is if you have a PC3R with timing added up top. Advanced timing and NOS don't mix too well. I would take the custom map you had made and remove some timing if you have a 3R. The resistor will add the fuel if you don't try too big a pill.

What about a resistor that became active when the nitrious is activated.
WHO can figure how to wire that?
I am interested.

Damn yall are goin to town on these options

Why not just wire a switch that you can toggle between running through the resistor..and through the regular lead. That way you perhaps can flip it right before your nitrous kicks in...or whatever

Easy just wire a relay in line with it that trips with the nitrous solenoid.

Sweet idea!! I'm gonna put that one in the 'when I install NOS on my bike' file.

That is most definately the way id go if I had to do it all over again. Just get your perfect custom map in your PC3....and toggle the resistor to richen the shit out of the bike right before you race on spray. Ohwell..hindsight is always 20/20.

It would be really nice if that same toggle switch turned on the nitrous.
and the resistor. Oops i forgot to switch the resistor on. BOOM

#1
I'd like to activated the resistor when the nitrous solenoid fires.
that leave 1 switch to arm everything and activate it any way you want.
This is a instant WET system. Full power on the button or off.

#2
If that can't be done, Arm the Nitrous and the switch on the resistor FIRST with one switch, then activate the solenoid later. This requires you to decide ahead of the game if you are going to make a nitrous run, because its very rich. and could foul plugs if left on.

#2 doesn't seem to hard with a Double throw switch like the dry kits come
Ok guy this is the what........ who know how?
with. But I like #1 much better.

I'd buy option 1 .

Eh...I always ride around with the nitrous armed (when there is a bottle in the bike anyway)

So its simply a matter of flippin the switch to richen up the mix before you hit the button. (for me anyway)

I try to keep it as simple as possible

Arming switch under the tail....triggered by the horn button.

I however currently have to change maps between nitrous and NA with the PALM.

The resistor mod is something ive been contemplating for awahile.

I had mine mapped...they took a little away under 3500 rpm and added a little after 8000 rpm, when I run the nitrous, I plug in the resistor, seems simple and safe...works for me. I foot shift (GP style) and use the start button for the #38 single stage. Just need plenty of practice now.

I'm in the middle of rewiring my 2 stage nitrous system. This year i switched from using the resister mod to the yosh ems with map switch.I have now bumped the 2 nd stage jet up and added the high pressure fuel pump.I would like to wire in a relay that would activate a resistor when i hit the second stage. This way i will just richen the map up enough for the first stage and let the resisor add fuel for the second stage. If i add enough fuel in the map for both stages the first stage is toooo faatt.
If anyone could help my e-mail is davegalbiati@shaw.ca and i'll send you a diagram of what i have and show me how to make it active only when i hit the second stage. Thanks

Its a 3 way map switch on the yosh right?

why not (switch 1 = Best NA map) >>> Switch 2 = Stage 1 Nitrous map >>>> switch 3 = Stage 2 nitrous map

That would work great if the map switched automatically when i hit the second stage but it doesn't.
