bubbles in the coolant tank?????

I dropped the compression a bit on my 1427 to help starting and longevity, and it sure does start now with no problems even when its hot enough that the fan is going.

BUT now when it gets hot enough to turn on the fan, i start seeing bubbles in the overflow tank. WTF???

I pulled the thermostat (made me wish I had a Busa, or hands the size of a Thai bar girl's) and it tested fine.

I replaced the radiator cap ($28!!!!!!!!!).

Checked the routing and clamps on all hoses.

Still does it! grrrrrrrrrrrrr :x

I am running the same mix of distilled water and water wetter as I have for 2 years.

My bike was on the dyno for 3 hours with no problem other than obliterating an HPX. When the bike got hot the overflow tank filled up to the fill cap, bubbling merrily whenever the temp guage hit 10pm and the fan came on.

After the bike was completely cold the fluid level was about an inch hi in the overflow tank and an inch low in the rad, i.e. the rad did not suck all the fluid back (unlike the aforementioned Thai bar girl).

Is this normal???? It doesn't seem like it to me??????????

BTW: if anyone needs dyno tuning in the E Texas area, JohnnyCheese is the man!!!! REALLY smooth, REALLY powerful!

Those bubbles(the air in your recovery tank) can be sniffed with a test solution that'll turn a color if the bubbles are created by combustion(leaking head gasket!). Most decent auto shops should have one of these testers. Have you put enough miles on it that you're convinced it's not trapped air still coming out? You can also have the cooling system pressure checked to find the leak.

To hell with the "Tiny Bubbles"!!! I want to hear more about the Thai girls!!!!! , hey Karl, my buddy had that little tube, you told me about you moving, well he had it clogged up and it caused him fits, maybe you can get one of those thai girls to blow through the hose and make sure it is empty....

Thanks, Ken

I somehow doubt its a headgasket because it does it so predictably, starts when the temp guage gets to 10pm, and stops when it gets to 9pm. also, no water in the oil. Also, the dyno had solid power. But I'm no mechanic.

There still might be some air trapped, although I never had trouble getting the air out before. hmmmm?????

If the system had a leak that let air in, wouldn't it let fluid out?

hmmmm... I didn't check for clogged pipes... good thought... I'm going back to SE Asia in Aug, maybe i'll bring those little tubes along for some specialized "Thai treatment".

Are your sure you have enough WaterWeter in there to keep yer water from BOILING???
Would be simple to add more...or some anti-freez to raise to boiling point...

On ls1 cars the heads lift and combustion pressure goes into the coolant, spraying coolant out the over flow. There is no water in the oil either.....
