Wheelie off the start ?s

I'm pretty new to drag racing bikes and I realized the getting off the line is the hard part. I just have a few questions for yous with experience....

I run a stock ZRX. I am wondering when the right time to shift out of first gear is. If the front comes up, does that mean I am staying in first gear too long? Should I shift to second gear sooner? I seems like the rear tire wants to break lose. Shifting to second would eliminate to too, right?

My best was 11.59 if I remember correctly @ 117 mph. My off the line times are like WAY slow, but I just want to get the bike to launch good first and stay consistent while working at my reaction times as well.

Thanks

Reduce your launch RPM and increase the length of time you slip the clutch out of the hole. Think of the clutch as your 'throttle' and feather it off the line but not just to mid-range but all the way to the upper RPMs. This will cut your 60' times and keep the nose on the ground.

Also make sure you are shifting all your bodyweight as far forward as possible. Check your launch stance and model it after the pros.

Good luck.

Tips

Heya Snow!

Does the front come up BEFORE the clutch is all the way out, or AFTER? If it comes up before then you are either letting the clutch out too quickly or feeding too much throttle(or both). If it comes up after the clutch is out, try rolling on the throttle instead of pinning it.
Exactly what are your 60's? Though i've never ridden a ZRX, i would think that you should be able to 60 in the high 1.7 to low 1.8 range easily with a stk bike. Lower it and you should be able to pull off 1.6 to low 1.7's.
Short shifting is not the best way to low ets.
