Lockup Part 2

Well this weekend was a much better weekend for the new MTC lockup and myself. I think we are finally going to get along First pass out of the box..Bike..6 over swingarm, Muzzy Ti exhaust, 2 inches clearance, Strapped front, 16-46 gearing, PC3R.
Weather, slight breeze and about 80 degrees.
r/t .001
60ft 1.606 (My best ever)
660ft 6.253
e/t 9.659 @ 143.235
4th pass
r/t -.054
60ft 1.602
660ft 6.249
e/t 9.626 @ 145.110

5th pass
r/t .094
60ft 1.548 (NEW PERSONAL RECORD!!!)
660ft 6.233
e/t 9.620 @ 143.455

Ive never been able to 60ft this bike..or anyother..hehe..The only thing im not sure of is the gearing. Should I add a little?..Im 210lbs nekkid..lol
The other passes were not good. I ran the bike out of fuel and had to add some 110 octane Sunoco. I think this killed alot of power because I couldnt duplicate these passes. Clutch wouldnt slip off the line like the previous passes. No other changes..Any input on this?..Normally I run the bike on 91 octance premium.
Dean...I havent tried the fsffss set up yet because I think ive come up with a spring combination that might work. Im very happy so far with the new performance this clutch has brought my STOCK engined bike. Do you guys see anything I could do to improve this?..Also using an MC2 tire. THanks all...Chris

Sounds good Chris, I think the goofy plate stacking is useful only if you can't get it comfy otherwise. Like the good Doctor says, the best thing now is practice. Let your clutch cool at least 15-20 min between runs - the grabbiness your talking about could be heat related. Hot lap it and you're sure to warp your steels. Keep up the good work.

Hey, it seems like you are doing better, just need some pratice getting in the throttle quicker. I saw you went 1.54 on that pass but your 1.8th and et was the same as your 1.60 60ft. So obviously it bogged on that pass.....you need to get it up to your launch rpm, and as you are releasing you need to pin the throttle....you should be all in the throttle by the time you got the clutch out.

I agree, the 330 is more important than the 60.

330....I wish

At our local track they are lucky to have the clocks working at all let alone have a 330 timer I do have the billet basket on the bike. I think I know why i didnt pick up much et over the 1.54 to 1.60 times. Both sets of arms were coming in real close to the same time. That wont happen again (setup error)..hehe. Anyway thanks for the support guys and will hopefully improve this weekend.
Dean...You were right I was hot lapping the bike. I know thats a big NO NO but I was so excited I couldnt help it.

Never did i think i would be able to just throw away the clutch and pin this beast but DAMN its fun. Hats off to MTC and Tony for the input and awsome product!!!!!

if you had 330 clock you would see that your 330 on the 1.54 and the 1.60 were about the same.....thats how you went as fast but lost mph....the bike prob bogged, which is a common occurance on a zx12. Now that I have a busa also, its weird, each bike requires a completely different riding style....I stage my stock wheelbase busa at 2000rpm and try to pin it as I let out the clutch....no bogs, sometimes wheelie, but nothing like the double clutch action from 4500rpm like the 12....I had to rev the piss outta that thing and it would only go 1.61 60fts at best stock wheelbase. Now Im getting CONSISTANT 1.60s on the busa....Ive only had the damn thing for 2 months...

I thought The part that goes on the hub is the presure plate and the part that you put the weights on is the top hat.

You might be right but i call that the lockup.Directions call for .100 to .125 clearance between pressure plate buttons and lockup arms.

You might be right also but at least we know what the other is saying So I need the stock springs, the spacing look right about 3 quarders worth. I will have to get a feeler gauge. And I did not get a instruction book is their any way you could e mail me a copy if I say please or is it too big?

I thought it was called a 'snowflake' Boss I would check with MTC as to why it isn't spaced correctly right out of the box.

I have the stock clutch set up, the plates and fibers have the right thinkness. I did not measure the stack hieght. Should I be able to spin the lock-up with my hand after it is installed?

STOP

Dude you need to get on the phone with Tony at MTC and have him go over this thing with you before you go any further. Set up on this clutch is the key. .020 on your clearances can be the difference between a huge wheelstand and bogging the bike off the line. Call Tony and he will help you. P.S. Not taking away from any input from people on the site, it just sounds like you need some step by step instruction and explanation of this thing.
