Motor Oils on the DYNO............

Seemed like it's been awhile since we bantered about oil. I'm not interested in which one is "the best", but was wondering if anyone did much testing on the dyno for best dyno results??

(haven't really heard any complaints about Motul, Golden Spectra, Royal Purple, Mobil-1, etc.)

I've heard Doug M. mention Motul and I'm ok with that.
I've also heard that Mobil 1 was good on the dyno, which is an oil that I've used quite a bit before.
I used Royal Purple on my 9R a lot, never had a problem.

I used Motorex the last two times, but they don't have a (10w) 30wt oil, just thicker stuff.

I have a few quarts of the Alisyn stuff now, but just wanted to inquire about the DYNO results of other oils....

Jeff in lake city did some testing with common oils (alisyn was included).

I dont think any power gains/losses were significant enough to risk using the lighter weight oils on the street.

Kevin & I did a before/after with Alisyn <0w and actually lost 1hp compared to 5w30 dino oil. Nutec spec 4 was good for 4 hp/1ftlb though.

Any oil that can be used with a converter, i.e., Mobil 1 etc. . .

Will not have the anti scuffing agent that a race oil will have.

Royal Purple, & Red Line Racing Oil, that are not safe for the converter on a car,
will work much better for what we want to use in a motorcycle application.

My brother in-law noticed scuffing of the cam followers with Mobil 1,
If you don't have a converter, then use a good racing synthetic oil.

Maybe I'll go back to Royal Purple then........

It's kinda funny what your Bro in law noticed with Mobil 1 because I have a friend with a Turbo900RR and after 1000's of miles (10k?) he was tearing the motor down for a freshening up or something, and he said the bearings were like new. go figure.

I been using Mobil-1 for the past 4 years with no problems. Raced my zrex for 2 years and riding it to work now has 16000 k on there and when the shop did my 14000k check up said the motor looked very good. Also I'm still running the stock clutches and chain that the bike came with from the factory..

I'm so happy with the oil that I now use it in every thing that I own ie; Truck, car, lawnmower ect....

Just my 2 cents

I am using mobil-1 also, raced all last year and starting this year with the stock chain and clutches. Just got the MTC multi clutch so I guess the clutches will be swaped out for 2.0's

BA,
Don't know if this is any help but Chad's 600 always had Royal Purple 0/10 until this season and now the Kaw guys are sponsored by Motul. His bike now has the 300v full synthetic 10/40 and his times have not changed a bit.
