ZX14... fuel pump v.s. swingarm?
Just purchased a brand new left over 2010 ZX 14 a month or so ago. i broke it in and then after a few evenings of test and tune at the drag strip i started the fun of doing some modifications. Brocks short meg full system, PCV with Brocks street map, BMC air filter, Trac Dynamics lowering links, and Brocks lowering strap. After lowering the bike [the links have 2 settings... 1.5" lower and 3" lower] to the lowest setting it seemed fine [nothing making contact with the ground, tire not rubbing [not much anyway ha] and the arm was clear of hitting anything.] I had about 2000 miles on it at this point. Well, after a few more trips to the strip i started noticing a mark on the arm, directly in front of the rear tire. It is part of the inner fender and i think that it is what is covering the fuel pump [i am not positive on whether or not it is the fuel pump or not... i am pretty much a 14 virgin, moving up from a 99 CBR1100XX.] It is the part of the inner fender that is sort of shaped like a cup... it has a little bit of a nipple looking thing on the bottom, at its lowest point. Well, the nipple is making contact with the swingarm directly in front of the rear tire and is getting smashed up into the cup a little bit. I do weigh 240 pounds so i figured that was it. I called Brocks to ask for some advice since they deal with bikes and since they are located just a few minutes from my house. I talked to 2 guys and they both say that they have never heard of this happening before. They werent willing to help me any further than that so here i am. I have seen guys larger than me with bikes lower than mine so does anyone have any ideas? I turned all of the shock settings clockwise but i really dont know what i am doing.

Put on a Tiger Undertail and it will fix the problem, it is part of the stock undertail that has a little relief for the fuel pump. The 2008 and up 14s don't have a problem contacting the fuel pump, it was changed becuase it was a problem on the 06-07.

Mine is a 2011 set up like yours and it does the same thing. The nipple sticking down on mine is smashed flat now from launching. I had the tank off not long ago while installing an air shifter and the bottom of the fuel pump seems to be about an inch or 2 away from the nipple so I don't see any chance of it hitting...I weigh about 170 in street clothes

thanks vailes. what kind of times are you getting with your 66" wheelbase? how about at swb? over the winter i will be doing a new arm and an air shifter so i can come out swinging when the weather breaks. i just started figuring out how to launch my 14 at stock wheel base so i am excited to have it 6-8 inches longer... my times were mid 10's for a while but now almost every pass is in the high 9's. i am also on a much needed diet!

Havn't had it on our local 1/4 mile track yet but my best 1/8 mile pass so far is 6.09 @ 117 with a 1.54 60ft. That was in 95 degree S/E Texas heat and I was foot shifting. I never had it on the track when it was swb. I havn't had a chance to go to the track yet with the air shifter. I've only been at it for about 4 months but I think after a few passes getting the air shifter dialed in and a little more 60ft work (shooting for 1.48) I should be in the 5.90's. My goal is 5.80's. Just gonna take a little more seat time and some cooler air. Not sure what my times would equate to in the 1/4 but hopefully it gives you something to at least compare to.

thats cool man. your et and mph would probably get you mid to low 9's in the 1/4 which is pretty good especially for only being at it for a few months! looking at a few of my time slips my best 60' is 1.62 but i ended up shutting down early so i dont know what i would have gotten if i ran it out. but my best et and mph [these came with a 1.66 short time] are 9.92 @ 142. i think that i have ran slightly quicker than that but i cant find the time slip. on the 9.92 @142 pass my 1/8th mile et and mph were 6.49 @ 115. i am really excited to get the arm and air shifter done and also a gearing change [i am still on the stock sprockets and chain.] i also hope to lose a few pounds by then! With all of that done and as much practice as i can to get a little more experience i am hoping for sub 9.50's but we shall see.
