Gen 4- Gen 2 ZX10 top end comparison pics
Here’s a side by side of some Gen 4 ZX10 OEM parts against the Gen 2 (06-07).
Rods. Gen 4 on right, ~ 20g heavier.

Piston domes. Gen 4 on right, ~ 3 grams lighter.

Piston skirts

Piston bottoms

Cams. Gen 4 foreground, much lighter, but I forgot to weigh. Lift went from 9.1 mm to 10.3mm. The intake buckets went from 25 (I think) to 29 mm.

In case you think I'm that dippy, I weighed them appropriately
I'm a little surprised that they beefed them up so much, I never had an issue with the Gen 2 stock rods, and I was pushing them pretty hard...

great pics!. Ive often wondered why some cams have such a wide lobe on them compared to other very similar cams. stock zx12r vs stock busa for example.

Notice the increase in base circle on the cams to go with the 29mm buckets.
The rods look nice.

The rods are heavier on the "big" end. More rotating mass-crank inertia.
Lobe width is set by the PSI load on the bucket/tappet/rocker etc. Stronger springs or higher acceleration rates put more load on the parts and the load needs to be spread over a larger area for life and reliability.
New piston, less skirt area= lower friction. Looks like a forging, don't you think, Jim?

Doug, yes they are forged and very nice. They are a "box" design much like the "MX" CP is making now. Suzuki likes to remove most of the material from the base circles of the lobes to save weight. Since there's no contact anyway. I didn't have time to check the cams ramp profiles when i did Rickey's motor last year. I'm thinking the major intensity number is a 24 or 26 due to the high spring pressures from the factory. This could explain why they changed the cams and springs at the time of release last year.
I sent that piston off to RC at CP so we can get some made with more compression and deeper valve reliefs.
I can take some chamber pics. I have some laser scans of the chamber, but pictures are better to look at.
The ports are hand blended and flapper polished, much like the new zx14r. The exhaust ports are MUCH larger than the older zx10r's.
Dean, I'll be calling you soon on this.....

Thanks Jim. I'm finding a little more time, it's my "Off Season"
(except that I'm at Barret-Jackson right now, and as soon as I'm done here I have to head for Brazil.......)
I am trying to put together a visit to Wilmington, but I want to bring my own bike so I'm looking at "logistics".

I'll be watching the Barret-Jackson on Speed.... I'd love to head down to that one of these years. Every so often Jaime thinks maybe she will sell her 67 chevelle SS. I guess that would be the place to sell it.
Have you ever tried Forward Air for shipping a bike? They have steel lockable bike shipping containers. They ship major airport to major airport. You call them a few weeks ahead of time and they will have one ready at your airport of choice. We could go pick it up with my trailer at the nearest major airport to Wilmington.
I've used them several times. Never a problem.

Here's some pics of the Gen 4 airbox. The outside velocity stacks have an interesting design, much different than the Gen 2.
