so much to do. so little money i may have to choose
well i think you all remember i split my block on my duster. that may mess with the winter project of fixing my tranny and putting the ported head and stroker crank in my 12.
i guess it is the same for everyone. the car is apart the bike i can race tomorrow if i want to freeze my ass off.
so the bike may stay together.
money wise the bike should not be too bad except for the tranny. that could be up to 700 i am guessing from seeing what others pay to replace a gear or two and back cut. the stroker crank and the head should not be too bad money wise but my car comes first.
i got a motorhome block that has thicker mains and much wider bore supports over the 73 block i split. just machineing and bearings and rings.
the bike needs the 3&4 slider grear and and the head needs a guide (i need to buy the tool) and a valve. and i need to go to 6 to 8" longer or more power is pointless.
not to mention i want to start assembling a engine for my pulling truck. (i have been hording parts for 10 years now. 700hp should be easy
how do you guys do it with 100 projects? i already come home to a house at 45 deg when the wood stove gets burned out while at work.

Done to my block .. Line honed , decked and squared , shot peened , ARP bolts .. Why this works so well is my compression is only 11.1 ( pump gas ) ... Stress levels are much lower on the mains .. I have one just like this one in my road runner with a small cam 504 isky and it's still runs great after 17 years of drag strip and street racing duty ..
My friend 3850 pound 66 sat has the same motor but with a fast rate Huges soild cam 565 lift and runs 10.40s and has been running 10.40s for 8 years now shifting at 5800 RPMs ... He has sprayed it into the 9.70 with a small shot .. I will not let him up the shot because we know at that point the block will be at it limits.. At 700 to 750 HP is where we start seeing problems with the old 440 blocks . Mainly cap walk but i have seen one crack like yours did .. The best part of a 500 inch motor like this is you don't have to push the motor to run great numbers , you have so much TQ to work with you can use tighter convetors , taller gears ...
Another firend of mine had this very motor in a 68 dart i sold him with 391 gears and leaf springs , JW 3200 convertor running 10.20s .. This was a street car , no light weight parts and running 275 M/T DOT tires .. He made 3 passes on the car and never went back to the track .. I built him a 572 hemi for the car and i got the 500 ( really 493 ) wedge back from him .. I did a 496 for another friend with the same short block but we used the Victor Heads C&C ported , 6.25 lift cam and the compression closer to 12.1 .. So far so good but i told him up front he was pushing it with the 730 HP it made on the dyno and not to spray it !!! Well he has been hitting it with a 200 short and i was pissed when i heard that .. It been a year and no problems so far ... I told him when the parts fly out don't call me because i told you so ..
As far as 400 blocks , i will not use them .. Every 400 block i have seen that made good power broke the block with in a short time ... Yes thay make great power but at what cost ? Some where i have a picture of my friends 63 ply that the block split front to back at the freeze plugs and dropped the crank right out of the block .. What a mess ....

well this is like a 400 block but a rb block. i am keeping everything the same. about 13to1. it is so easy to over power the blocks it seams with good heads.
this block has to out last the 73 block with the heavier casting if i do not go for more power.
i still wish i would of got that 10teen before the block split
a 500"stroker on pump gas sounds like a next cheaper setup.
nice cars you have.

here it is getting ready for the girdle

looks like the people say it will still brake after a while (they said seasons) to someone asking about 750hp on this block. well i am shooting for the upper 600s so there will be a party if i get close to 700 with my current parts. time will tell.
