rings and HG. its only leaking between the bores, nothing into the coolant passages. next time its getting studs instead of the stock bolts. also had slight contact (PtH) which im sure didnt help the HG issue
cam chain didnt really stretch any

It shouldn't be doing that. Something else is going on.

have any pointers on what to inspect Doug? this block was bored, plated and surfaced by Millennium, and the head side of the gasket looks to have been sealed.
this was the surface finish by Millennium

more pics of tear down
extra oil squirter mod. all 4 pistons get sprayed instead of just 2. the cases are cast in such a way that everthing looks normal with all 4. its like they planned to do all 4 but for some reason didnt finish?

heavily modified/baffled oil pan

not sure if this damage happened over the last couple yrs, or when we took out #4 and outside mains in 09. im leaning towards 09 as it would have starved this as well. it would probly be fine, but i have spare shells
this is #3 after a little rub with 1500 grit sand paper just to see how rough it was. a little experiment. its getting thrown out anyway. i may mic it just for curiositys sake

Did you check the head for flatness? That bike is NA right? There's no obvious detonation. There has to be a reason for a stock hd gasket to fail.

No I havent, I will!
1287cc Cometic HG. stock head bolts. Most of the passes on the bike are NA, but it was getting sprayed. started with 30 dry in 2010, bumped it to 55hp shot that season. only sprayed a few wknds. in the first part of 2011 i got my best passes NA out of the bike, (8.8s) put on a progressive controller later on in 2011 ran 55 for a couple wknds, it started getting some extra blow by(oil out the case vent), thought rings as it was slowing down NA also and couldnt get it off the line nearly as well. it wasnt like it was instantly after the nitrous use either, we allways run some NA passes the first day and it was slowing down before the nitrous use in 2011. we knew it was coming apart this winter so upped the jet (60ish) for a heads up event to make up for the power loss(hoping it stayed together), it kinda worked as I won the event, but the bike only went a best of 8.85 @158. nothing compared to earlier in the season when I was getting ever so close to 8.5s on a little less spray.

if the head was flat and we gave it a little more room on squish, how much could we spray with studs?

Scott, did you use a straight edge and feeler gauges on the block to make sure the block wasn't low between the cylinders before assy? They usually are 95% of the time. I know they said it was resurfaced but that's a broad term. See if there low now.
Typically a seasoned block doesn't shrink much more once its resurfaced. UNLESS you increase the heat (nitrous) from what it was used to seeing previously when it was in service. Aluminum tends to shrink smaller than it was when cooling from extremes vs the other material around it. You see this when welding aluminum also.
I would recommend studs also!!!! The head may have been lifting especially with the pistons hitting the head.

No I didnt check it Jim. it seems as if I get something new to check on every build now that I have quit assuming stuff is ok. I thought that they must have taken at least .010 off as i had to use 2 base gaskets on the build, so I assumed it was flat.
heres a few things Dads bike is getting(except the copper HG, thats mine) this stuff showed up from Muzzys today
