Wannabe racing with the NHRA Div 7 All Stars

I just got back from Phoenix where I raced at the first Division 7 race. Only 10 bikes showed up to race, and one of them broke right after his burnout. I gotta say that I didn't feel too good coming out of qualifications. Everyone else posted RT's between .005 and .011. The best I could do in 4 passes was .126.

The great thing is that I was kind of adopted as the new kid. Everyone was great about giving me advice and wanting me to do really well. One guy even said that he would give me $100 if I knocked him off the top qualifying spot. He didn't have to pay.

The first round came up, and I got paired with Leo Shaver. He was the champ at Las Vegas as well as the King of the Tracks champ from last year. I lost, but I gave him a good run. Something must have clicked because I treed the boy with a .013 off the line to his .018. I shut off too early on the other end, and he got me.

I learned a lot this weekend, and managed to get some personal bests:

1. .013 - best RT
2. 9.85 - quickest run

I started the weekend feeling totally intimidated, and I finished it feeling like I can totally run with the big boys. I hope to get a rematch when I see these guys again in Sacramento next month.

.013...goddam they let you guys leave early

I thought the best R/T you could have without a redlight was .500 (.400 on a pro tree)

Perhaps im just silly and you mean that .013 = .513 being .013 over perfect??

YCIS, it was a .400 pro tree, but NHRA is now counting from green. So, that .013 is really a .413 light. I think the LED tree actually helped me.

Are you still coming down to race with the NMRA ?

I thought that Phoenix was going to be rained out...

I've done that drive before, & got rained out...

I'm glad you liked it, was it expensive ? ($140.00 just to race.)

Red, of course I'm still coming to the NMRA races. The only difference is that now I feel like I actually have a good chance to win some races. By the way, your name came up while I was talking with the guys. Everyone had nothing but nice things to say about you. And, yes, it was $140. That was a real shocker to me, but I think that I got my money's worth. At the very least, I learned a lot from those guys. I like to think of it as a $140 education.

kawachan, I actually have a slightly differnt theory. Instead of building up my confidence with the 'run what you brung' local races, I'm gonna keep at it with the divisional races. I figure that if I keep playing with the big boys, I can't help but get better.
