slappin bars on the zx14 got a few questions

installing a set of bars on the zx14

motor is stock, mods are Muzzy 421 exhaust, K&N filter, flies removed, -1 Vortex up front, MSD/SB6 ignition, MRE air shifter, PCV w/Jeffo map, Muzzy lowering links, 8 inch swing arm extensions, stock back sprocket, Mickey Thomsan 7 inch flat slick on the back rim

i want to launch this thing hard but the gearing is not there for the stock motor

what sprocket size would work best in the back, remember there is minus 1 up front already

keep in mind the Mickey Thomson slick is over an inch taller than the stock street tire

i am thinking a 48-50 tooth for the back, what do you think?

i will be running eighth mile most of the time

obviously i need a lockup, but i need to keep it super low budget (or i would use a slider)

what kind of lockup with what static spring and weight setup will work best with my low budget needs

we ran dads 12 with 1 down 10 up, bars and a flat slick for awhile

ask mtc what the average total spring lbs seem to be. they will be able to tell you. i can not remember.i think around 200lbs would be safe to test. what do you think scott? it may slip a bit there but you will know if it is too lite when you can pin it and throw it. i bet on a 14 what ever lbs you need to hold around 8500 to 9500rpms till arms come it would be a good starting point. heavy is safer to keep from burning clutches up though.

You need to give a little more info.....How / where are the bars attached to the swingarm ?? How long is the wheel base and how long are the bars from rear axle to wheelie bar axle ?? If you can afford it.....a slider is THE way to go with a slick and bars !! Gear the crap out of it !! I'd go down one more in the front and run at least a 53 in the back. I've been running a ZX12 with bars for a while now...I'm geared 16/56 and it'll some times bump the rev limiter at the top of 6th as I cross the line. Oh and if you do gear high, make sure you add something that'll overide the 186 mph limiter because the bike will think it's going way faster than that

If ur tire is an inch taller I believe all u did when dropping 1 tooth in the front was bring ur rollout bout the same as stock, gearing calculator will show the exact speed change at a given rpm, I'd drop at least one more in the front and up 3-5 more on the back

have not posted for a while sorry

notice the title slappin bars on blablabla

tough economic times has forced me to slow down with any bike "spending"

and as we know, you don't slap nothing on when dealing with your wheelie bars

it's more in depth, great question about where am i mounting the bars on the swing arm, what am i doing for a strut, is it it easily changed back to streetable, all these things have been considered by me and must be implemented

i need some time, some suggestions for a removable strut, i do have a few ideas and would like to hear yours, thanks

someone suggested call big Ryan shcnitz sounds like a good idea

cause we all know we hate speculating on gearing when your having to buy a bunch of sprockets to get the proper results for your particualr setup

we switched to this setup, bars are collecting dust if youre interested, they are pingle

the thing is i am 50 years old, i am tired of holding down the front end

i want to hit the bars hard and let the front end fly without fighting it

those bars you have, what length are they?
