I would have to concur that you never leave something too serious into just a single persons opinion of how to best fix it.
Doctors are like anyone else, some are very very good, some, well, maybe not so good, not as experienced or vastly knowledged.
Other than that, I don't know crap about bones and healing!
Hell, I've had 3 different doctors check out my shoulder!!!

Angie, I was wondering and asking all of the time always wore me out! I will say it "Out Loud" Is your need for a Cigarette that Great!! Remember I walked on crutches for "Three (3) Years" the "Non Union" in your leg is caused by the Lack of Blood Supply inherent in a lower leg injury. The Constricting of your Blood Vessels by Smoking Cigaretts and I will bet "Drinking Coffee" are killing you. This is the Place where your "Hard Head" is hurting you the most! It is Killing me to watch. FOr some reasons, a lot of Doctors will not discuss life styles, but you are a Classic Case of the results. Use your Hard Head to stop Smoking and Decaf Coffee or Postum and get better.
My Second Opinion is that there is another way to fix your leg and would have been best if done to begin with. Look up Kernan Hospital under the University of Maryland Medical system. Limb lengthing and reconstruction before it is too late and they decide the risk of infection is too great and cut your leg off! They may need to cut out the "Splintered" section of leg and put the Lizaroff around your leg and at the rate of 1 mm a day (1 inch a month) re-grow your leg with brand new bone. It will take about 2.5 months to regrow the leg and about 6 months for the "Regenerated Bone" to harden for weight bearing and you are done. No operations on your hip or anything else. If you were younger (Still growing), about 4 months to harden. I really suggest to look at this course of treatment and get it done once and for all. Is a Cigarette worth you leg?? Are you telling me that you rather Smoke than walk?? That is what it comes down to!
We love you on this board, but I will tell you like it is!!!!!

Angie, I really did not want to say what I said on the Board, but between you being mad at me or Getting better, I do not care if you hate me forever if you take the Bull by the Horns and do what needs to be done! While I am at it, Kss if you smoke also, how easy will it be for her to stop if you are there smoking. Also, second Hand smoke will not help either. And a Nicotine patch will constrict your Blood Vessels just the same. Hardware in the lower leg can become infected at any time and you will really be in trouble! Make the Hard Decisions and use the Stubborness and Hard Headedness to stop the BS and let your leg heal. By now, you know that what you are doing is not going to get it done. We talked about this in late October and November last year. If you had done then what you needed to do, I will bet that this would be over by now, what do you bet??

zx12girl,I need to take notes,I'm bull headed too,I'm sure my doctor would flip and my health insurance would cancel me if they found out what I did today. It's got to be hard for you waiting this long,I'm going nuts, but lets just make sure we listen to everyone and get better, hell,by then everyone will be going 8's anyways. How can a broke hand/wrist take so long-they say the pins will stay in a minimum of 6 weeks!Who knows how long, but in your case girl,be careful!Hope you and KZZ are doing good,I still get compliments on his air shifter set-up!

Well, Here is the update!!!
Three weeks ago...I went back to the Doctor because my leg was hurting (It had not bothered me before). I found out that I broke the stainless steel rod and a couple screws in half. This was not good news.
The Doc scheduled me for surgery again on April 4th. So I went back to the hospital to be sliced and diced. They took out all of the broken hardware and inserted a new larger rod and new screws in my leg. I told the Doctor if I have to be cut back open to do everything that he could to insure healing this time. He also cut my hip open and shaved some bone off my hip to pack in around the break area. Then inserted a bone stimulator around the bone (inside my leg).
So now I have 51 staples up and down my leg. Stuck in the Lazy Boy most of the time because I lost allot of blood during the operation (low hemoglobin). I get a nurse that comes over every two days to draw more blood (checking my hemo... levels)....Oh! and I can not forget the physical Therapist twice a week. Oh the Joy!!!
I get to see what the Doc did in the x-ray's when I get the staples out on Friday. I do have a better chance of healing this time and I will follow the Doc's orders!
VINCE - I am working on it. I am going to do what ever it takes to get off these damn crutches. This will be week #2 with-out smoking."Drinking Coffee" = Ummm....Nope...No need to get a coffee buzz being stuck in the chair!!!!
Bottom Line - It looks like I will not be hitting my 8 seconds this year either. Another Bench racing year for me!

Angie, You are the "LADY" and one of my hero's to boot Pick anything and I will either do it or give it up for a week to show you my support. (Please do not make it that I must stop using "!!!" for a week, that could seriously injure me The #1 thing is that you have not suffered an infection yet! That puts you so far ahead of the game, I cannot tell you!
A few short statements, Being Old does not make me wise, it just means I have had more opportunities to be wise. In 1971 after being in the Hospital in traction for 67 days (Broken left Femur) I just had to go for a ride in my 1970 Red H-1 500 Kawasaki. I unlocked the clips on my leg brace after I got on the bike and went for a nice ride. Parking the bike, my "Bell Bottom Pants" (Remember them) got hung up on the foot peg when I tried to put my foot down and I fell oner on the (You guessed it) broken leg. I immediately felt a Numb Feeling (You know what that is all about) and a fe people came over and picked me up and the Bike. I immediately went back to the Hospital where I coauld have ended up in Traction for 2 more months, but the Lord takes care of Babies and Fools. The leg had moved, but not broken more. In the next month, I had more healing than the previous almost 3 months. I learned a lot that day. Mostly how stupid I was about a Motorcycle! I was about 29 years old at that time, so you can see that I also know what a Hard Head is like.
Angie, give me a challenge and I will take it just so you know I will put is all on the line for you! You know that 2 times in your hip will make it hurt more than anything else! Ask the Doctor about smoking and healing, just do not listen to this know it all! If you have been for 2 weeks then you can make the 2 or 3 months it takes to make the difference
One other question,Ask the doctor if there has been any studies on Bone healing and Fosamax. It slows the bone loss by slowing the bone flaking and may be a way for you to gain more bone! Let me know! I may be in Ohio in May and If I am, I will get in touch and see if I can get past to say Hell o in the flesh (I am much uglier in person )

Maybe when I come that way, you will be healed enough to get into the Cooper and take you for a ride like I did Dave in Daytona Very close to a 4 wheel Motorcycle, except the Bike may ride better ??
I forgot to add, I did not say this last time, but personally, I think this is the Charm! Six Months of Real Healing and you will be limping around with the "Doctors" Blessing! You have paid for the Hard Head in full period. In case you cannot tell, I am feeling pretty good about you right now because there has been PENETRATION through the Thickness and you know the deal!

ZX12Girl.... aww that's so sad.
Your making me tear up!!
It sucks not being able to ride, but girlfriend you have to keep your eye on the prize - and that is the long term.
And long term is getting all better in the shortest amount of time.
(Smoking? - not going to go there!!!) - give yourself time to heal.
Cause if you don't GIVE it - your body will TAKE it.
