Another member of TFA is in the 9's!!!

I raced at Infineon Raceway today. I didn't get a chance to make it up to the test & tune yesterday, so today was the first time for me running with the 16/48 gearing. Lemme just say that it feels good to finally feel like I have the right gearing.

First, a little background. The paperwork for my NHRA license wasn't done, so I was told that if I ran in the 9's, I would automatically be out. The second practice pass, I ran a 10.023 144.84mph with a slight shifting bobble shifting from second to third.

So, since I didn't have a choice, I dialed a 10.00.

The first round of eliminations...

I dialed a 10.00, and the other guy dialed a 10.80. We were stuck at staging forever becuase one of the sportsman cars spit oil all over the track.

It was sunny and warm all through qualifying, but now it was overcast and chilly. I mentioned to the guy I was running against that I was afraid I would break out because the air was much thicker than earlier. (This is what we call foreshadowing.)

Well, it's better to be lucky than good. I messed up and the light turned before I got a chance to hit the limiter. I bogged heavily off the line, but the boy in the other lane broke out.

2nd round of eliminations

So, here I was in the second round. I noticed on the ladder that I had a bye into the finals if I could just beat Kevin (a second generation dragracer who has been racing for 20+ years.) I was confident that I could take him.

I dialed a 10.00 again to Kevin's 9.95. He beat me off the line with a .450 to my .491. (This is the first time my reaction time has ever gotten in the .4's.)

I chased him down and shut off just before the line as I passed him. I broke out, but I was stoked with my first pass ever in the 9's. Here's the times:

R/T .491
60ft 1.675
1/8 6.490 @ 114.55mph
1/4 9.952 @ 134.03mph

Yes, TFA is in the 9's!!!!

Way cool. I guess it is safe to say you have healed since your little accident I take it.

Yup, I'm all healed up and better than I was before the accident.

I'm stoked. It looks like I'm gonna be able to run in Super Gas (9.90 index) in the NMRA races after all.

That's good advice Mike. I have seen more then one guy limp across the finish line coasting to a win because the other guy broke out or red lit! I would assume youv'e seen even more with your ars in drag racing.

Mike, thanks for the advice. I'll keep my big trap shut next time.

Crotchrocket: This is only my 5th or 6th time at the dragstrip. This last pass was the first time where everything just came together. I think that everything became personal after the crash. I had to show my bike who was boss.

I'm going to Phoenix next weekend for the NHRA Division 7 race. Everyone's telling me that Gary Treble is gonna be racing there as a tuneup for Ganesville. I hope my next post is "TFA is in the money."

ZH yes, I rember my win in Milan MI last year my clutch puller broke at the line in my Street class, 3rd round, and before the race I was speaking with the guy and he told me he couldent guess his dial all day long and that people kept redlighting on him, his second time at the track, well long story short, I got my bike to the line but couldent launch it at all due to the clutch puller, and my dial was already up there so I have a 10.sec bike dialed 9.60... oh man the guy never looked back and broke out by a mile! In dragracing you dont kiss and tell and if you do be a Man and Make it a story to believe. LOL.... oh damn man Im worried I have been cutting .50 lights all day long this is great, hope I dont redlight......

Did they make you walk the bike down the track to get the win?

Craig Treble is tough to beat...

I had him covered once at Speedworld Motorplex,

I hammered a better tree, watched him gaining on me,
looked to the stripe, as he dumped the throttle & I broke out by .001

This guy is good, He will take the NHRA Pro Stock Championship soon...

I'm glad to hear that your going to Phoenix, I won't be making that race.

It's great to hear that the bar & the slick put you on the right track...
