steering dampers

i like the scotts because it looks like a engineer designed it to dampen the steering.
to me those cylinder types are the cheep way out (they better be cheeper than the scotts type) and it will dampen better one way than the other.
paul you do have to drill to install the scotts.it is not bad but you need someone with skinnyer arms and manul dexterity to get the nuts on underneath.

i was that guy saying i never had a problem so was a friend mike till he went down in the front of the track with all the rubber down.
he told me i should have one cause he went down on a gsxr750. well i went down before the 1000ft mark about 130mph or so. cost me upper, headlights, right side, clutch cover, right mirror and buggered up the muffler some.

I have a Scott's on my 12R. But we put a GPR on Racheal's14 and it requires no drilling. If they make a GPR mount for the 12R, I would consider it.

The frame drilling on the 12R is no fun, and it is not in the best place to drill holes, imo.

for the scotts, get a long handle wrench and put tape over one side of the boxed end to hold the nut. that was the only way i was getting it done without help from a kid lol

That's exactly how I did it too. Loctite is important also. The Scotts/ Ohlins rotary damper is the best. I see the "GPR" on the market, and it's obviously trying to be a copy of the scotts.

it is more than just a damper. it has high speed and low speed dampening. so it can be easy and take a big hit and restrict the big hit. i also am sure the angle of effectiveness is adjustable. much more than a cylinder setup. (if you can aquire it)

yup! You can adjust it so the effective damping is where you want it, although the factory settings are pretty close for most.

GPR has been on the market for years. They are up to the 4th or 5th revision, I believe. As I say, I have a Scott's on my 12R. But does anyone really think that drilling holes in the steering head casting is the hot ticket? On Suzuki's, and most other bikes, the Scott's uses pre-existing threaded holes.

The GPR product, on the other hand, does not require you to drill your frame in any apps that I have seen. I love the Scott's damper assembly (we have two). We have tried Hyperpro, ohlins, scott's, and now the GPR. By far I have been least impressed with the cylindrical Ohlins damper assembly...at least for my needs.

Like Chad, I have a Pit Bull and like it too. It pivots up out of the way which is a neat feature.
It's easy to adjust on the fly and is simple & clean.
I've got a Muzzys on my 12 and have had a GPR on another 14, they are all good.
