3000rpm launch...
Last nite at Houston Raceway was very humid, 60's and I had traction problems launching at my "normal" 5000-5500rpm. So I tried staging at 3000 and pinning it.
I got traction but had to short shift 1st and 2nd to keep the front end down.
I lost time on the 330's (my "normal" is 3.95+/-) but the 2 passes were very consistent.
60' 330' 1/8 1/8 mph 1000' 1/4 1/4 mph
1.557 4.019 5.966 126.65 7.645 9.071 157.54
1.578 4.017 5.956 126.86 7.637 9.068 157.19
I'm thinking that lo rpm launches may be my future once I learn to get better 60'/330's with 'em. I'm guessing that my clutch may last longer also.
any one else care to share their experience (specially fat guys like me)?

Dammit Karl!! You're soooooooooo close to 8's!! Go Karl!!!! 8's in your NEAR future!!!!!!!!!!
(skinny guy experience!!)
I think you may have something on your clutch not lasting long wtih the bigger motor. Shoot, I haven't got but about 40 passes on my new clutch and it's already slipping!! Maybe I need to start launching at 3k....

9.07 and 9.068 not only fast but pretty damn consistant. Your talent and dedication will definitely get you into the 8's.

Damn, Karl - 157 is a lot of muscle. I leave at around 4500-5000 rpm, and roll into the throttle. I've read a lot of Busa guys leave at 3K and pin it. With all the torque you have now, I'd think bogging wouldn't be much of an issue. Go Karl... Go Karl...

Hey Dean, I've gotten the same info from good Busa racers. leave at low RPM and pin it.
<<< >>>>
I tried that all last year, and I have to say that I **HATED IT**!!!
I was fighting 1st gear power wheelies all year and never did win that battle.
Towards the end of the year, I made a few "old school" passes that I used in 2001 using mega RPM and slipping the clutch like a M'fer and was rewarded with close to my old times, and not fighting the wheelie as much.
It's true that my clutches lasted a LOT longer, but my 330's were down just a bit due to fighting that damn wheelie.
I'm going back to clutch slipping and stratosphere RPM this year.

Way to go Karl! You will be in the 8's consistently soon I think. I usually launch at about 7000 and whack it wide open just after I start moving, using the clutch to TRY and keep from wheelieing.Fuck them clutch plates! That's why Kawasaki makes lots of them. You are definitely president of TFA!

Yep, Harry has it right: "Fuck them clutch plates! That's why Kawasaki makes lots of them...." LMFAO!
I usually burn em up, and don't mind doing it, but I have big trouble with consistency when slipping the clutch and giving more throttle at the same time. Not that I care 100% about consistency as i look for that last 1/10 of a sec. I want my fukken 8's!!!!
I'm going to try the 3k launch some more and see what happens. I definitely need my 330's back in 3.9's and lo 3.9's at that.
Tonight I'm going to an Argentine steakhouse and eat a giant steak! I'm not Pres of TFA (that would be Zak/EZ), but I am a founding member and i gotta keep in fighting trim!!!
Thx for all the input, it helps me put things in perspective.

Going down a tooth on the rear should help you keep it wide open in first gear longer which oughta help your ets and make it easier and more consistant to ride. Just a thought. 157mph is really hauling the bacon!

Mike,
I'm pulling the clutch this week and will try yr steels the next time out. Weatherman says next weekend is gonna suck but sometimes he's wrong, so we'll see.
Ken,
I had the same thought and went from 51 to 50 to 49 (now). What I really need is a longer arm, say 8" but I wanna keep the 6". Fogging the roaches in my box is a longer term project, gotta figure out this set up first.
Yummmmm, steak was a 4" thick ribeye for 2. burrrrp... ahhhh... My staus with TFA is confirmed.
