Red,
I saw you walking around (from a distance) but sure as shit didn't see you on a Booser.

My bike going back together this week. APE took the .003 bow outa the crank and it now measures .0002", well within Kwaks spec of .0005-7).

I'll be replacing the 6" arm with a 10" Trac Dynamics soon after the bike is running again. I WILL, repeat FUKKEN WILL, get 8.9's!!!!

DJ,
you were looking good at the shootout, you'll be in 9's VERY soon.

Entropy, in my experience the longer the wheelbase the lower the RPM needed to launch, also the quicker you want to dump the clutch. at 63.5" wheelbase I found myself completely out of the clutch, 100% WOT before 60' mark with a shallow RPM launch, and grabbing the nitrous button before the 1-2 shift!

So yes, the RPMs are lower but the launch is actually quicker! I was getting 1.47~1.49 60's at that wheelbase on a Shinko with 22psi. I don't think you need the longer arm to get in the 8s, you can do it!!

Better buy stock in the tire company!
You WILL experience tire spin a LOT more with that kind of length when the track isn't good/ GREAT ...

Oh-ya...did you figure out why the oil pump drive broke???

Cmarsh,
which arm did you use? all motor? bugjuice? tirespin? you got any pix?? I won't run SBS, in Houston its all turbo-busas and juiced 12's that fly! No chance for my fat ole ass on a 12 on motor.

What really made up my mind for the 10" was seeing a Busa go up and over before the 60' beam at the last Tx Shootout. I've been have trouble keeping the front end down and damn near looped it a few mo ago.

Wheel spin is likely to be an issue, but with my fat ass and lo rpm/pin it launches it might be manageable. Houston has real good traction in the summer, but anyway tires are cheaper than clutches, eh KC?

Bergie,
damn, how are you getting 1.47's? You are not pixie-sized are you?

The oil pump drive shaft issue is still a mystery. Bear said that he knew of it happening on a Busa in S Africa but no one else has ever heard of it happening. Go figure???

Red,
how come you are riding a Boozer?; what's the deal on yr tricked out 12? I've been waiting a loooooong time to see the debut.

Karl, keep your 6" arm, its all you need, MAYBE go 8" over but thats prolly not worth it. With that BIG motor on a long ass arm like that, you are gonna spin the fuckin tire everytime unless you get one of those excellent days at HRP. If it wheelies, you can still save the run to some degree, you if blow the tire off the line, the run is a waste. BTW, Toni on the busa that looped did not even have a clutch mod, much less a lock up. He just put in a fresh clutch pack on that looping pass and still had the freakin factory slipper in there. We were like, WTF? He says "its never screwed my launches up before" right before he flipped. He usually 60's high 1.40s-low 1.50s with that original setup though. He can freakin ride but the slipper just bit em. That bike didn't even have an air shifter for the longest time and he was going 8.50s. Such a simple setup. lowered, 6" arm, ATS turbo with a full exhaust and change of gearing, 8.50s@168-170mph I bet he gets a lock up now eh?

tooooooo late now, Alan, arm is on the way. I figure that w/my weight, a lo rpm launch, then pin it right outa the hole should keep launch related spin to a min. However, the 1-2 shift may be a problem.

A lock up MAY be in my future, but i'd really rather do without it if possible

Watching Toni's loop gave me a cold sweat... Glad he walked away, and the bike seemed barely damaged. Lucky guy, eh?

Well, least you won't wheelie it. The low rpm launches will actually give you more opportunity to spin the rubber though because there is nothing controlling the power output and you are using every bit of the engine's low speed torque. You are going to ramp right up the torque curve. Thats how you get better 60's and 330's with the low rpm launches, and it will save clutch packs. When you come out high and slide it, you are using the clutch to give you a safety net. If it wheelies, you juct pull back the clutch, if it spins, just pull back the clutch, when you use the low rpm dump and nail, you are relying on the bike setup and track to the get power down. Either way, your shit should roll if you get it hook. If you ran 157mph with the other motor, this big F'er should rock!

I ran 157 with the big motor, but didn't get enough passes to ever put the 60' together with the 330' for a good ET, too wheelie prone for my riding "skills". I am still stuck at 9.05-9.07.

When I get back to the track in a couple weeks I am expecting a bit less mph, prolly 154-156, because its getting warmer. I WILL get 8.99999999!

After I get my target, we'll see what it can really do. Every time I see Peck, he asks me when he can throw a leg over it; always the same answer: "after I get my 8's..."

Leap of faith! Dump it out and let it rip WOT. I'm getting just a hint of a wheelie 1-2" with the wheelbase at 63.5" I took me a while to become comfortable with it, now I'm skeeered to go back to stock wheelbase tonight

Fergot you go to Huston...I rode the FunnyBike there for one race years ago (track was NEW)...NICE FREEKIN TRACK!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now I'm more jelous than ever...not only does he have the $$$ to do what he does...he gets to play at HRP!!!
(actually mad at self for being such an UnderAchiever)

10 IS awfull long though...and I think MC2s cost us more than clutches??? SPECIALY since we only go through ONE clutch a YEAR
Actualy...JOHN has learned to pin the throttle in 1st now...and IS "blueing the plates" faster than I did...
TFA = Lot-O-Clutches

ARH..You keep talking about the 12 youre building...Fill us in?..or email me at azx12rush@aol.com. Would love to talk to you about it

Ent..You keep talking about the low rpm launches, Ive also had my best et's by doing the same (stock engine). This year I made a change to an MTC Multistage. This will be the second week to the track with it. Last year I couldnt cut a 60ft time less then 1.77 even if i had a 747 hooked to the front of it. Best pass was a 9.97 at 146. This yr along with the mtc ive installed a 6 over arm. Im with you I dont believe 6 is enough. Im going to order a Coby Adams 3-9 inch soon. Anyway back to the clutch...This thing has so many adjustments you might really want to consider it. If nothing else call MTC and talk to Tony. I plan on doing a write up on the clutch and what it took to get me where I want to be. So far still making adjustments so im not ready to spill the beans yet. Anyway just a thought....Chris

Chris,
i don't know anything about lo rpm launches, just really tried it a few times, but it seems like it MIGHT be in my future. I'm a slow ole fart...

If you get the MTC figured out, well, don't tell me how good it is. I've got nothing left to pawn

I too don't think you need that much arm. Your gonna spin the hell out of the tire. Last weekend I ran
9:10@151 w/ 1:51 60ft. with that killer head wind.(motor)
I leave at 3,500 and 90 percent of the time short shifting 2nd at about 8-9 because of the wheelie.
Hell I don't call myself a light weight I'm 180 dry.
My problem is my 2nd half of track.
On that pass I had
1:51 60ft.
5:90 1/8mile 124.68MPH
only 9:10 @ little over 151mph at traps
What's the deal? had 16-44 now 17-46 almost same gear
crossing in 4th.
I need to find that 3-5mph I'm losing in the second half.
Any Help Appreciated.
I want to go 8's on motor!!!!!!

We have offered John's bike to Tony (MTC) multiple times for R&D-ing the slider...he said (months ago) that he just didn't have the time
Hope he realy is close now
Slider, slick, wheelie bars = BadAss ZX12
We would already have a slider in John's bike for SURE...IF they were available...I've had NOTHING but GREAT experiences with them...with or without wheelie bars
