Oil Cooler Cleaning after spinning a rod bearing

What are your thoughts on re-using the stock oil cooler after spinning a rod bearing. I am afraid of getting some more metal in the new motor. I found that a new stock one is is too expensive. Does anyone have a good one laying around? Does anyone make an aftermarket oil cooler for the ZX12?

Several plates (like discs) sandwiched together...
I know it's hard to get all the oil out of it...let alone "particals"???
Would have to be pressure washed...at the very least...

Of all the motors out there that have been built and such from problems what has been done in the past? Can it be cleaned out? Should I buy a new one? Does anyone have a clean one from a wrecked bike?
THanks all.

Not much help but...I did build a 1270 that had a "bearing problem" (worn down to the bronze color) but it didn't actually "tear-up" or spin...
I pressure washed the cooler (multiple times) until nothing but solvent/water came out of it...then I did it one more time
Motor has been running for more than a year now...no problems...

Are you serious Karl?!?!?!
It's that big round thingy that you???screw your oil filter on to...
It's also an oil HEATER if you think about it...The water get's "warm" before the oil does and the water goes through the "cooler"...

Take that very serious guys, I've personally seen a motor that had to come apart AGAIN
because the builder saw brass at the first oil change. All the new bearing were
undamaged but too many brass pieces not to tear it apart and wash EVERYTHING again.
Just think what could happen if the crank loss oil pressure because of a blocked line.

It's up to you chief- if money is no object, swap it out with a new one. Otherwise I would run a bunch of safety kleen or solvent through it at pressure until there's no crap in the output. Blow it out, do it again, etc until you're sure it's clean.

What Dean said...
I'd consider going to a car wash...taking some kind of parts cleaner with you...if you don't have a pressure washer...
Clean it over and OVER and OVER again till yer confident that you got everything out of it that you can...

Wasn't giving you a hard time Karl (or anyone else) I just thought that you Might Have wondered why that Round Thingy had coolant hoses clamped on it

DEAN...
I made a coool GIF of that wheelie-run under yer name...Did I ever give it to you???
I was watching the video you took of me at Jax...I have to say...I am VERY impressed with the riding I did on that particular run
I started on the back of the seat because I was worried about traction on that run...NOT the case though (because I WAS at the back of the seat )
Right at the 60ft mark...the wheel powers up and as I go past you/camera (90-100ft) you can see me pull myself to the front of the seat AND shift 2nd gear (foot with kill box...no air) at the same time with the wheel over a foot off the ground...NEVER LETTING OFF OF THE THROTTLE
UNreal to watch in slow motion...hard to believe I know the guy doing it while I'm watching it
MAN...that was FUN

Pressure washer - good idea. You're so anal :P

You mean the motion-corrected GIF you made? I posted that one: http://plaza.ufl.edu/sabat/971.gif Thanks again for that..

I remember the run you're talking about - that WAS a kickass pass If you can make it small, email me the clip in MPG or GIF, and I'll post it on my page, and you can link to it anywhere you want.

I am jones'n to race BIG time. Toby thought he might finish my rake this weekend, but I haven't heard from him... hope things are going smoothly.

That's NOT the one I was talking about...although it IS a coool one
I need to burn another CD with the one's I'm talking about...I started working on a GIF of the run (of me) that I talked about above...

I ran ALL 5s on Scotts Z1 Dragbike Sunday 5.92, 5.90, 5.84, 5.81(letting off and breaking out ) would have been a 5.79
SCOTT ran a 6.15 on it himself...he was VERY happy...

A 6.15 with Scott on board??? That guy is a frickin Sequoia! Jeezus! Sounds like you got it dialed in, nice job, looking forward to seeing it.

Definitely need to burn a CD off you - I brought the Powerbook to my brother's last weekend- he loved the movies, thanks.
