Carillos, where and how much
Well I have decided to go with Carillo's on my 1361 kit. I have a few questions. Where can I get them and whats a good deal.
Also
Are they already shot peened AND balanced?
Can you order them in different lengths so that you can do a 4mm stroke without the stroke being on the crank?
Thanks in advance ALLL

I was told by Falicon $700+bolts and any length.
Bergie, how much horsepower do you think the rods are good for?and do you think turbo you can go a bit higher before changing?

They will be balanced. You can get short rods to avoid the need for a base spacer, but I don't know what you mean by "without the stroke being on the crank"...

250 no problems, how much more? Don't know for sure, I would guess 300 wouldn't be an issue. I've seen several 1270s with stealth kits not having any problems.
Doug/Muzzys will tell you the same

Well I saw a no4 rod take off the entire side of the motor casing on a Legends car powered by a 12 motor. I just dont want to do this again and spend the money again thats all. I wish I knew where to get them and I wish I knew the limits of the Stock rods.

I have 280 hp on three 12s with nitrous if that helps, Coby says his bike should be good 350 hp with spray. I think the highland boys are around 300 hp also that's all I know right now anyway.

If you want $800 piece of mind, go for it. Any engine builder will be glad to sell them to you, but if you ask, they will also tell you that aftermarket rods are not necessary unless you're making super silly power such as turbo applications. If you're only gonna make 230~280 and use a dry shot, stock rods will save you some money. Just put new rod bolts in when you build it.

Here's an interesting page to read about Carrillo rods, in the "peace of mind" vein.

hahaha Cowboy but it is true stock rods, I found a stock bore nitrous piston from a different Mike 13.5:1 that he says has a much thicker dome perfect.
I think it was the driver couldn't handle the power of a real 12 eh Cowboy lol. hehehehehehehe
Hey can't complain at 280 hp in three years two failures both on rev limiter I think if I could cut out the nitrous with the rev limiter I could stay with stock pistons.
And just for the record the two failures I did have were while someone else was at the helm.
Once on the track and once on the dyno so I would not really count those myself anyway. Besides that I don't know anyone at 280 hp on stock motors besides me, if the heavier pistons are good bingo 300 hp here I come.

I was with ya all the way until you said to "use new stock OEM bolts".
All things being equal and prepared correctly, I thought the BOLTS were the "weakest" part of the rod, then the cap ends, then the beam right where it spreads out on the big end.
I'm not saying stock bolts suck, just that when comparing 'peace of mind' vs $$$, that fixing the bolt weakness is waaay easier to swallow than getting all new Carillo rods.

If you read the Service Manual...it says to replace the Rod bolts if disassembled...
I was told by "someone in the KNOW" that you can reuse them...ONCE...I replace them anyway...CHEAP insurance if you ask me ...

Oh ya...I've talked to Carrillo before (about they're rods/bolts) and was told that..."the bolts are designed to out live the rods"!!!
Nuther-words...buy the rods and never have to replace the bolts no matter how many times you take them appart

Well stock rods come with new rod bolts. I was just curious if there were upgraded bolts available for the stock rods?
