tire air pressure
I'm curious what you guys do with your tire air pressure. Do you change it for track temps or just leave it once the bike has been dialed in? The temp on the track can vary a lot in NY where outside air temps can be from a low 50* to 95*. If you do change it,by how much?

I know the colder it gets here the lower pressure I run. but it can go the other wat as well if it hits 90's and 100 here the track can get greasy as well and I need to lower the pressure a bit. for example I ran 28 psi in mine when the temps where nice and when it got done to 40's and 50's here I went down to 18 to 20 psi.

I usually start at around 18 psi cold. Then I add or subtract pressure as needed to get the most it will hook with.
Sometimes, if it hooks, I just get lazy and leave it at 18.

so many factors......, depends on wheelbase, and then, what type of wheelbase......
my arm would put a lot of guys at near 70 inches......, my buddys 12 is 62 inches, with a 6 over arm........
do what works for you. I have turned 124 in the 1/8, stock motor, on like 8 lbs, so dont get caught up in the more psi is more mph war.......,

Has any one played around with front air pressure much?I have noticed that any thing above 60 p.s.i. in the front actually slowed the bike down a little.I always assumed that the tire got to a point where it was actually bouncing and leaving the track and scrubbing off speed when it made contact again. Also skated a little at times.Too low of a pressure resulted in slowing things down due to rolling resistance I believe. This was with a slick and never tryed it with a treaded tire.Just wondering about any one else.

It slowed you down, because it reduced the rollout in the beams.......

and this is funny how?
yeah, shorter bikes, or stock wb, on a VERY good track, you can play with high psi......., but why waste time, playing with 12 vs 15....., for like .25 mph, , and you may not even know if that was what changed the mph.......

It's funny because the less pressure, the more rolling resistance...and that will cost you mph. Push a bike with 40 psi in the tires...then push one with 8 psi in the tires...
I wouldn't care over even 5 lbs, because ET wins races...not mph..
But understanding the concept is important....run the max air pressure you can while maintaining traction.

Yes, of coarse....., but, its not like going from 15 psi, to 30 psi, is gonna net you 5 mph......
But yes, the concept is important, it just funny how many people I have seen try dumb things with tire pressure...., we had a guy here trying to run 30 psi, on a crap track, dang near hurt his rider, because the bike was rolling on a stone......, also, depends on how aggressive you are on the starting line...., if you slide the clutch a lot, like some do......, then you can get away with more pressure. lots and lots of variables......, i run 42 in my front. but from 8 to 15 psi in the back, i cant tell the difference of mph, or rolling resistance......., but i am at 68 inches, with a longer arm than most.

I can see a difference but I am a heavy rider. My little buddy shows no speed difference at all with 10 lbs less.

yeah, there is a huge factor on how much weight is on that back tire......., when I got a good shock, I had to up the tire psi, because I actually had down pressure.......LOL
