experiment - Land Speed setup at the 1/4mi

Tom Gates (extreme turbo busa), ZXAlan(street turboBusa) & I (big inch NA Busa) met up at Houston Raceway yesterday afternoon to see what we could do with 110% LSR set up.

man o man what a comedy, 2.0-2.5 60's, spinning, slippin', sliding, 3-4 shift right at the traps.
Broke loose on 1-2 and 2-3 shifts

My mph was 159-ish, times in the upper 9's, gained 35mph from 1/8 to 1/4
With my 230-240# fatass in the saddle, about what i expected

I hate to think what i did to my clutch, but it sure was fun

It was a great time, but only made 4 passes, none of em remotely clean.
I gave up, wishing i had a 10" arm, MT tire & the right gearing.
I'm guessing that i could hit 165mph, mid 8's with that stuff.

My painter and big inch NA Busa drag racer says the bike (properly set up) is prob good for 170mph, low 8's with his skinny azz on it.

Karl, repeat after me:
"you are NOT going back to drag racing..."

hey woppi,

35psi, street tire (LSR application)
shock is set up for LSR, not at all as soft in compression as for dragracing.
But the big issue is the tall gearing, 155mph at top of 3rd.

That's some crazy dragstrip gearing. It is the opposite of what I used to run...dragstrip gearing for LSR.

Tough motor!

Before going i was tempted to change my LSR gearing of 20/43 to 16/43 but since i don't have a 16t CS spkt, the decision was easy

We done exactly the same thing back in May after the Maxton event. The boys were curious what the bikes would run at Bristol (track at 1,600') and we were pleasantly surprised at their land speed set-up.
Absolutely nothing was changed from the week-end before & Chad ran between 9.15 & 9.20 and Zack was a tenth slower on his 14, he was alittle rustier.
Both mph's were 157-158 range.
That was with pump gas & footshifting. They raised the bikes up after Bristol and rode all summer.
They know they'll never run the big numbers at land speed events but these 14's are not too bad for streetbikes!!

We also done this back with my old 12 after it ran a tad over 200, Chad ran low 9.30's on it at Bristol the following week-end with no changes.

Their goals are 210 at Maxton and 8.90's in the quarter but we're gonna have to find a lower elevation track.

I'd say your spot on with your predictions Karl.........your Boosa is a MONSTER !!! I know you had a great time.

nope no pix, TFA is bad about pix unless we have Madam ReeRee cracking the whip!

Tom was still spinning & slipping down the track, hadn't broken into the 9's yet = Ten second Tom

Alan, had a 14# spring on and was having issues getting down the track also.

Still it was a ball.

don't remember my best run but years back I'd run 18/44 to Shane's 17/46 or something at the 1/8 mile....good times.

One time we rolled out and i left the ram air tubes at his place....roll-ons on the way from the track proved you need ram air tubes! LOL!

Dan,
your boys are uber talented!!!!

Maxton was soooooooo much fun, i'll come back in 2011, maybe for the Oct event again.
Those "heat of summer" events don't call my name too much.

You and Lydia and the boys have definitely decided on March at Texas, right???

Maybe one of em could throw a leg over the Busa; since there are no official records at Texas, it wouldn't stepping on my mentors' toes. (which i will NOT do )

Sure would be nice to see what you could do on it with a little seat time. You would smoke your old ZX-12's 8.7 second time.
