Hey entropy

I went to Rickeys school in Chicago and it was a blast. Rickey is very down to earth and if you have been racing for a while you will know about 60% of the stuff that he will tell you its that other 40% that helps.
There is a lot of info to be had its just hard to remember it all. But you will remember it when it comes time. Also he will tell you anything that you ask him, I can't recall one question that he didn't answer..Just go with an open mind and you will have blast and learn alot.

One last thing; Take a lunch and snacks. They bring drinks but no food.
I had a bunch from my road trip so I ended up sharing with some of the other riders. Don't forget your camera...

Later DR JOE

P.S. Let me know how it went...

Dr Joe,
I've met Rickey a couple times and like you say he is down to earth and free with advice. That's why I will take MY bike to his school; i.e. get set up advice in addition to technique.

Good tip on the food as Houston Raceway is in the boonies; not much grub nearby.

What do you ride?

Hey entropy,

I have 2 bikes a 2000 ZRX1100 and 2001 ZX12R.

I took my ZX12 to the school because I wanted rickey to help me set it up. He said it that the set up looked good and that I needed to change my gearing is all.

I think that there were 3 of us that took our bikes, 1 ZX12 and 2 Busa.

We had 2 ladies in our class, One rode a Busa and the other one a Zx9.
The burn out class was the hardest for some people. I gotta give it to Rickey. The only thing that was tricky for me was leaving at 7000rpm. I was use to 3000rpm on my ZREX and Rickey says to me OK lets start at 6000rpm. I looked at like are you crazy, but by the end of the day I was trying 7000rpm. Now I do it all the time. The classes is a lot of fun....

If they had some kind of come back and learn some classes that were let say $200. or some where around there I would go again..

Hey Entropy

My bike is lowered, tie down strap in the front and I had a buddy make me a lowering link for the rear that puts me right at 2" off the ground. I have a Muzzy Clutch set, basket and cover. When they pulled out my stock clutches they said that only 2 had very small burn marks on them. (That was with 2300 mile on them and about 100 or so passes) I also put on a 16 th front sprocket and left my back stock. So what ever I'm doing I must be doing it right....HAHAHA I also run Mobil 1 10-30 full synthetic car oil that I have run in both of my bike for the last 3 years. Other than that the bike is stock.

I rode my bike for about 7 months before I put my extend 6" over swing arm on it and I also added an airshifter with auto shift. I also add a M/T MC1 Shoot out tire that a friend gave me. It had about 20 or so passes on it.

My philosophy on racing has never changed over the last 20 years;
If you can't ride it stock and get every ounce out of it. How in the hell are you going to ride it hopped up.

I see guys at the track make this mistake all the time. And they will throw money away like crazy. I had a guy a the track in November with a Suzuki 600 with a 1000 motor in it with NOS. The best this guy could do was a 11.03 on the bottle. My first pass was a 10.70 and a 10.50 2nd passand that was all Motor no NOS.

I have been lucky enough to have riden 19 diffrent bikes down the track and no 2 are a like. But its a blast. On all but 2 I have either had a better E/T or run faster MPH But in most cases its both. As any one on this site will tell you practices, practices, practices.....

You asked me if going to the school helped. For me it did in more ways than one. Lowering my E/T was not my goal, doing the same thing every time and being consistent is how you win races.

And Dean I could take lessons from you and KingZX12.....LOL

Thanks a lot guys, but you're on crack. I need all the edumacation I can get, especially from the likes of Rickey Gadson. Someday I will take that class, or George Bryce's.

Somebody should take that Suzuki away from that guy. What a waste of machinery and money. He's only embarassing himself, if not putting his life in danger.

Have fun, looking forward to the report

ain't that the question, eh???

I do want more consistency, but am mostly hooked on better ET's, higher mph.

I used to get good clutch life, but now I have Ron Ayer's # programmed for speed-dial...

I was talking about something in dr joe's post. The nimrod with the sprayed GSXR hybrid.

I love consistency too... consistently faster I want my dial to count down like a timer. It's not the best way to win races, but I have fun, and that's why I do it.

Thats what I like about this site its just damn fun to read.

I think that to many new riders get the wrong idea about racing and there buddies don't help. You need a pipe and a jet kit and on and on. When they can't even launch the bike. Whats your 60' dude? It was a 2.40 and only 2 wheelies this time....HAHAHAHA

I love to go fast but I also want to be good. I don't want to make a good pass every once in a while, I want to do it all the time....HAHAHAHA must go faster, faster and faster.......

Hey Dean I'm trying to figure out how to pay for George Brices school in February 13-14. I'm looking for a sponcer can you help a poor guy out?...LOL

Later DR JOE

P.S. Dean Its more fun to embarass these guys when they show up talking they know how to ride. I love the challenge of trying to beet there times....
