Dean goes 186 NAKED !!
Dean Sabatinelli ran 186 (185.998) yesterday at Maxton on his unfaired all motor ZX-10R. The conditions were horrid with temps in the high 90's and very high humidity. Dean got the air flowing into the motor with his new Competition CNC head (Nice job Jim). 190's in the Fall. Many may not fully appreciate this accomplishment but I do. Congrats Dean, Well done. LSL

Great speeds, especially for those conditions. I knew it would be terrible conditions, one reason we didn't make the trip. Looking forward to this fall, Dean will be running some big numbers.
Dean's such a good guy and hard competitor, always good to see him running great.

Larry and Dan, your praise means a hell of a lot, thank you very much. I had a great weekend despite the heat, one of my best LSR meets yet. Thanks Jim, looks like the head works
Larry, will you & your team make it to Loring? Sure would like to meet & buy you a beer someday.

Very nice Dean. Good job!! Bring that bad boy to Loring.
LSL Come on up to Loring, its a great venue, 8' thick of concrete 300' wide and 2.5 miles long
Just to shed some light on this "experimental" head, it was the first zx10 "inflection" ported head. It involves reshaping the valve bowl area with epoxy into a "ramp" to induce a tremendous amount of tumble energy into the air fuel charge.
This was the first real world test of the inflection port on a zx10 head. It worked very well on X-DOT Racing gsxr1000 AMA superbike, where we increased the tumble significantly and picked up power everywhere.
With the zx10 head having a higher degree of tumble to start with, it was going to be tough to increase it enough to raise the BMEP a noticeable amount like we did on the gsxr1000.
Early on in the testing we thought we had missed the target and were going to have to revise the geometry. But after some tuning it was apparent cam selection and seat timings are critical here. More testing is needed, I think there's more power in this head.
Thanks to Dean for being the guinea pig on this. Real world testing is the key here.

Thanks folks, it was a great weekend.
I should say that I ran very similar speeds 3 years ago with a 'traditional' head ported by Ryan Kallina, although the conditions were a bit better then I think. I spoke with him about Jim's head, and he is interested in a back-to-back dyno or Maxton comparison with a newer head he built for me, with epoxy floors. I ran this head on the dyno on my turbo, and hurt it a little. Ryan is fixing it now, and I hope to try the test at some point, at least on the dyno.
This is not to say that Jim's head is nothing special - far from it- but I'm just providing full disclosure, and giving Ryan his due. The best part of this comparison - I get both heads!!!
Jim, hope you don't mind, but here's a couple pics of your port, and one of Ryan's.

Jim's chamber;

Ryan's 'velocity' port; (epoxy on floor only)

Hey Rick, long time. Ryan has his equipment in another guy's shop right now, but I think he is looking for someplace else. His number is 904 318 4087, and he is still doing heads and motor work.
