Kind of hard to explain. I have been to every event except one since it started in 03. It use to be nice and personal, easy going, no bad drama. The guy at the front doing the entrance fee/wrist band thing was extra rude, the parking guy would not let me go over to the TFA area, so I went down the mile and turned around to come back. A couple other things that were kind of impersonal...................Whereas in the past you would just roll up, chat with Shannon, get things squared away and have a good time. I know it's just Texas Mile growing pains, and I am the one that has to change my mind set, so thats why I ended up a little emotionally dry on the Mile, no biggy, I'll get over it................................................but TFA is what makes it worth wild for me!
Sorry to soak up Maxton Mile time.
Hope to see you all sometime soon. ; )

Gary,
i'm guessing that you "going a bit dry" on the Mile is more die to you being a spectator the last 2 events than the event getting "too big for its britches"
Get one o' yr/bro's 3 bikes making noise and that ole fun will be right back poppin' for you.
I guarantee it!!!!!!!!

How did that happen?
I am sure Al and Keith can give you their side to it, but the problem that arose from a misunderstanding went real bad with shitty attitudes and poor handling of the entire situation. I guess WE don't PAY for a professional organization ,and we just have to live with it. I did think it was funny when Al told me I needed to bring some crew to help me with getting the car to the line and I had to remind him he ran them all off .

Hmmmm, TFA is definately what makes all the events wild. With the growth of our sport we must expect change as with anything. The standing mile is becoming so popular that new venues are popping up across the nation. I believe that we are in the infancy of a venue that will become as popular as drag racing if not more popular. There will be many changes to come and I am sure it will become more expensive as we go. The saddest part is that with growth, money is sure to become more of a factor. I think that we would all do well to remember that we are what make these event what they are. I don't have a solution for what happened to Ali, nor do I like some of the things that have happened at Texas but I love to go fast and I would surely go into a funk if I didn't have these events to look forward to. So lets just be thankful for being a part of the birth of the standing mile events and remember that we changed as we grew older and took on more responsibility too.

I'll second that!!!
Like I said it's just me. I'll keep my head down, not make any waves, and keep running with TFA.
Ali, Roy, you should bribe Keith with a diet coke and Al with some BBQ. LOL, just kidding around.
I'll be up and running soon Karl. Older son will finish regular baseball season this wed., first in the leauge. Younger sons t-ball wraps up next Saturday...........but Allstars starts for my older son, shouldn't last but a few weeks.
I will probably spoon Big Bro's 1430 motor in the frame this weekend, button it up then it's on to the our turbo Busa and getting my 12 back in the frame.

Ali, you know my stance (thoughts and observations)... and how much I believe everything happens for a reason no matter how hard it is to see when it's happening. Chin high, head low and front tire forward my friend.
Brenda, with the first mile event starting just 15 years ago and a very large growth spurt happening in the last 7 or 8... you're thoughts and words are wise beyond your years. We would all do good to reread your perspective on occassion.

Thanks guys and gals, I appreciate the words. All I can do now is get my mind ready for Loring. I'm pretty sure I'm going but I have to now get my finances in order to make that meet. I probably won't change too much on the 12 for Loring since its proven to be stronger than I could have ever projected for a stock piston/crank/rod/compression motor (knock on wood!) Just a couple of teeny tiny changes that I may as well do that won't cost me much and try and make the meet.
Hope to see some of you guys there. From everything I've gathered thus far our big tailwind from last year was certainly not the norm....but screw it, any time you can just keep going over 200 mph for that long is a goooooooooooooooooood time.
See you guys there,
Ali

Shiphteey, just reading your post gave me a headache. I H A T E jackasses like that starter. Little-minded, fragile egoed turds that have to do things like that to make themselves feel important and worthy. Sorry that happened to you, man.

Ali, This does not sound Good! Glad I was not there because I do speak about anything I do not like. I have always had a great time at Maxton and this hurts me personally because I know what you have given up in life to do this.
If I were in your shoes, I would send the exact 2 pictures you posted here to Keith and say, All I want is an Apology from that cloths wearing being that put me through Hell and broke my heart and spirit on a day I have been planing on for close to 5 years.
Like others I would state that 2 wrongs do not make anything right, but since I did pass Tech and it is clear from these Pictures that I was not treated the same as everyone else, I am owed the written apology from the Being you were using as a Starter.

Karl, I have no problem forgiving those who have wronged me, if acknowledge it and ASK forgiveness. Someone throws sand in your eyes and then you're expected to apologize in order to roll a wheel at the track? It ain't right.

I think what Karl is trying to say is this......Here in Texas we would have strung em up. You know........big oak tree........noose around the neck..........Kawabunga and the bike they have been standing on is driven away......down the track or wherever and its over.................Good ole Texas justice! Thats what we do to starters that piss us off. None of this hem haw mouthy stuff, we just string em up right then and there and its over. No need for apologies that way! Words of wisdom............hang em high...............right Karl? LOL!

Huh? I think you misread. That wasn't my handwriting, that was another racer's writing that I took a picture of to show someone else with small numbers who raced all weekend without interference by the starter. That picture was of numbers and tape on another bike, not mine.

Vincent,
Al (the absolute best and longest lasting starter the ECTA has ever had bar none), got in a bike wreck on the street awhile back and now oversees safety in staging more then anything. Mark (the assistant starter in question) has been (like many of us), pissing Al off pretty bad as well... which now (as of last meet especially) has him on the edge of "walking" from his 7+ year position as the Chief Starter.
Ohhh, and yes you are correct... Al's a mean bastard to everyone equally! :-)
BTW, There is a starter named Steve that is absolutely awesome, he was trained by Al and you can tell.
The starter is our last guard to going down a safe track, and is also one (along with our crew members that are at the line), that should make us fell VERY "COMFORTABLE" before making what we hope is a faster speed then we have ever been before.
"Friction" type people (like Mark) is not what we need on our frontier to new speeds... period! It was never this way with Al... he always makes you feel relaxed when getting to and leaving the line (unless you're a pita of course.
Impound is ten times smoother then the starting line with Mark on it... something is seriously fucked up about that.

Al is a great starter. He always takes the extra time to check Racheal's chest protection.
In all seriousness, Al has caught several potential safety issues prior to us running down the track, and it has been greatly appreciated.
