I am pretty sure I will convert the turbo to Megasquirt 3 this winter. I could pull 4 boxes (kit ECU, secondary injector box, datalogger, boost controller) off the bike and replace with one MS3. And have more flexibility and data resolution. I can probably recoup all the cost by selling the 4 boxes. Just have to take the plunge and learn a new system, tune it from scratch, go through the teething pains.

I am running a verison of MS on my zx14 -- not sure which one though as I got it from another shop -- we have only had it on for a brief time and haven't got to play with much --- I removed my stock harness ecu pcIII and all -- i run it with a schnitz pro2 box to control the timing nos etc.. we make an ignition housing to run teh dyna trigger

I'm not an electrical guy and haven't played with it to much to see what all the MS can do -- right now its just controlling my injectors.

Who wired your harness for you? I need to do something with the stock ecu and harness.
clearly the reflash isn't happening like the busa.

I received the megasquirt3 v3.57 board and case. It has surface mounted components andlooks like it should hold up on to the vibrations. I dont have the MS3X board yet , looks like it is still being tested . That is the board that has the stuff to run a cam position sensor and sequential stuff for the injectors. But I am working on making the adapter to use the stock wiring harness and sensors. It looks like I will use the stock relay box since I am using the stock wiring harness.

I will try to get the sensors calibrated and see if I can get the CanBus transmitting ... so far it isn't looking too complicated...

the cost so far is $540 for the megasquit unit , $39 bucks to upgrade the tuning software and & $25 for the connectors to the stock wiring harness. I found a wideband controller for $150 ( no sensor ) . The software has an autotune function to help with making maps so having a wideband sensor will speed stuff up. You can also use it for the AFR safety system .... this really isnt looking too bad , since the dual channel O2 controller /datalogger cost me over $900 , not to mention the PCV & SB6 ignition.

the stock TPS, air temp and water temp sensors are calibrated. The plug and play solution is looking pretty good right now.

I am going to get the speed sensor and gear position wired up . It is interesting that speed is wired tio the ECU , but is also received on the canbus from the gauges.... maybe it just needs something to send so the ECU knows that it is there.

I am still waiting on the MS3X card to connect the injectors , cam position sensor and coils. If this takes too long, I may just setup a wasted spark system to fire up the engine.

If you remove the speedo signal to the stock ECU, you can make 1 run bypassing the limiter. Then the bike will throw a code and requires a signal from the speedo in order to reset (you actually have to drive the bike, (or run it on a stand). It will not reset until it gets some input from the speedo). I learned this on a wasted pass at Maxton...

I don't think you understand what i was saying. The speed sensor is wired to the ecu on pin5 so the ecu should know be able to calculate the speed, but the gauge cluster also sends the speed via CanBus

my question is why get the data from both the cluster and the sensor ? unless the data is being sent just let the ECU know the cluster is attached and working. I did remember hearing someone say you could not race the bike without the gauges connected .

I understood, Roy. I don't know why they are sending the 2nd signal...but it is obviously tied to the speed limiting function for some reason. I agree that it is very curious; but it actually works out well that way for being able to defeat the limiter with a speedohealer.

You can race it without gauges, but you will have to reset it each time by connecting the gauges, so it's a pain. I made several passes (which would have exceeded the stock limiter) with only a shift light on the bike.

did the bike revert to a limited ecu map ? what happened if you made a second pass without the gauges ?

I was able to run over 190 mph on the first pass.

On the next pass it hit the limiter at around 178 mph. I believe I was running 17/43 gearing at the time.

The odd part was that I checked for codes by connecting the gauges between runs, and it showed none. Only after the 2nd pass did it show a code; I had to connect the gauges and ride it and get it up to 20 mph or so in order to clear the code.

I ordered the MS3X today. That is last part I was waiting on to finish the project. This is the board that has the cam sensor and gives you the ability for sequential firing of the plugs and injectors. This is a new board and they are sold out again, but they say that another batch of MS3 and MS3x boards coming in soon.

I already made the wiring harness adapter so I should be able finish assembling the megasquirt and fire the the motor up when I get back from loring.

I am going to try to use the MSD SB6 with this setup. The MSD software displays the timing from the ECU making it a very expensive timing light ...that will allow me to confirm the trigger wheel setup on the megasquirt. I have a couple of spare MSD units so I will use them ... a hotter spark might be good anyway.

looking forward to the progress

There are alot of guys doing this with the busa on turbobikes.net
Pinky on there would be a great asset if you have questions.
Some even have wireless laptop connection, to their laptops for tuning, which I thought was also pretty cool.

I'll help you set up your Megasquirt if you can help me get a car tire on my bike.

Side note is that the Motec should be available for the 14 now....
