clutch creeping
well i do not know if you guys with zx12s on here noticed this or not but when you stage and rev the engine up with the clutch in and it wants to creep you have some broken friction plates.
i had two middle ones shattered when i did the clutch inspection i usually do every 4 weekends or so. it was creeping on me and i had a good idea i had atleast 1 broken plate.

so far i have not killed my steels to the point of warping.
i always have two new frictions and two new normal size steels and
one or two thin and thick steels to adjust the pack. that way if i brake i have it covered.
tonight i did a street dyno pull to check my curve in 3rd gear from 3000rpms.

When running Rickey's shootout bike, I looked at the clutch after every pass. Usually, I would change no more than one or two steels due to severe spotting. If you do it this way you won't get to the point where you waste a run and the clutch will always feel the same.
I know it seems like you'll be going through more plates, but you really don't because keeping them all in reasonable shape is easier on them all....

Was there a trend in which steels seem to see more heat?

It depends on how it's oiling, we obviously had the drilled hub and sleeve that we sold. But yeah, the ones in the middle get a little hotter.

doug i have the muzzy sleeve that has the correct hole drilled to the notch lined up with the oiling hole and i drilled the basket and i am not really impressed with the amount of oil on the plates over stock. i my self think they are a tad dry yet. do not gegt me wrong it still works ok with all normal size plates, just thought i would get more oil into it.
