We have a stage 1, 2 and 3 depending on the engine size and usage. And also a super-sport legal head. The SS head with stock cams and pistons can make 205+ hp and the stage 2 we have seen from 215-238 so far depending on the build.
The stage 3 is going to be tested in a month or so, and wont be for anything but a 1570+cc engine. Designed to make max peak HP.

06/07 are pretty much the same bike. Changes came in 08-up.
The 06/07 bikes had a recall due to some cracked frames, so that would be my #1 concern with one of those.

There is really not a big debate in the ZX-14 community about that. It is not like the 12R A vs. B model or anything like that. The later bikes have some improvements, but are fundamentally the same machines, with the same power and speed potential.

Can the SS head with stock cams and pistons be sprayed with a 40shot and still live?
Should the HD springs be added to that combo.

I have one of Jims SS heads setting on my work bench .. Jim doesn't shim the springs because it runs stock cams and it just is not needed ..If i where to run spray with this head i would shim it or change the springs just to be safe .. I see no reason not to spray with a SS head other than needing a little more PSI on the valve springs ..

+1 If your spraying it I would shim it to add some seat pressure. If your spraying it and you hit the rev limiter it will provide a degree of safety from spitting a shim. You are not allowed to change the valve springs in SS.
The ss head is about 1.2-1.3 added points of compression with a normal stock head gasket. Use a thinner head gasket and the CR is higher but you have to play with the cam timing to get the piston to valve clearance safe.

Jim,
Are you at liberty to say how much is cut off the head to get the 1.2 cr bump? If not, I understand.
Thanks,
Dan

Dan, its a lot. Once a head is milled for SS its a SS head from then on. Its a special cut and its over 1mm.
Cecil at HTP our SS head as does Bryan when he builds his SS engines for Brock as well as several other shops. Rickey G. had one on his zx14 bike last year that won SS.
Sonny just ran a 7.48 @ 178 in an exibition run at the AMA event this weekend. Its a Busa with our stage head.
Ryan just crashed the BMW.... He's ok but went to the hospital just to be sure. The front end washed out at about the 440.....
Ryans riding for HTP this year but i dont know if they are at the AMA event. He may just be riding for Brock this weekend.

Thanks Jim for the answer, I was just curious.
Zack talked with Chip Ellis earlier and he said Ryan did go down at the AMA races, he's okay like you said......thankfully.

Thanks for sharing the info... Im not SS riding material, but I do want to go over my 2006 motor and maybe give it a tad more power. Im just trying figure out which direction to go.
We have gentlemen here who had Adams build him a SWB ZX14 that looks identical to the monster SS that JT rides, only difference is this one has a side winder and 40 wet shot. He says the bike has been 8.8's. I need a combo that will run around him... which is why I asked about nitrous..
I think I read that SS motors are not streetable is that true? and Why?

Well the compression is higher but with 92+ fuel and a good octane boosting additive for some insurance, I dont see why it wouldnt be streetable.
You wouldnt want to pin it full throttle in a higher gear at low rpm.
But only a nit wit would do that anyway.
We can control the compression by how much we mill the head. It doesnt have to be a full on SS head.

Jim have you spoke to RaceMachine.net to see if they are and will do the tricked out Ampco 45 all Bronze skulls on the ZX14 cylinder head ??? They are suppose to be worth a few extra horses and most of all a BIG benefit for larger bore's and a very well heat management modification too !!!!!

No I haven't seen a need for skulls.
There are several 1650+cc busas making 260-280 hp out there with out stage 3 head on them used for drag racing without any issues.
Ryan had run his busa at Bonneville at peak power for 6 miles.
I don't see why there would be any HP gain from it. Its more of a durability issue but we don't have any durability issues so.....????
I think if you were going to run a supercharger and nitromethane then they might come in handy. I don't know how well the heat would transfer to the aluminum from the skull thou?
I guess it depends on how well they fit and the contact area. You wouldn't want ANY air gaps.
Is there any of these skulls in use out there now?
The block is more of an issue with the big bores than the head is. We were working on a MID sleeve system for the zx14.... but we cannot go bigger than 87mm. I wanted at least an 88 mm offset bore. if the 87mm proves to have head gasket issues then we may go with the 87mm MID sleeves for durability. We will have to design a new sleeve for this application, so we will see if we need it.
