oil pan: how much?

50 degree nite, the track was like a skating rink, and after 5 passes of varying success hooking up, i launched HARD, 6000rpm after a 10 count, hi rpm burnout.

bike hooked and went straight up, vertical! this carried down the track for more than i wanted, wobbling as i tried to back off on the throttle. finally it came down with a predictable bottoming of the forks and a tank slapper.

Great time for my Muzzy steering damper to be on the way to Muzzy/Hyperpro for repair, eh?

Anyway, both wrists felt injured but are not

The oil drain plug is damaged and the oil pan is cracked, luckily it didn't lose more than a couple cups of oil.

The Akro header's prexisting dent got polished in the same spot where I dented it a year ago pulling a similar (top of 1st) stupid stunt.

I'd go for a modified oil pan but it seems that grinding off the drain plug guard saved my Akro header from more extensive damage.

what to do, what to do...???

BTW: my MCR2 is on its last legs; anyone have problems wheeling on launch with an old MCR2??????? I have never wheelied straight out of the hole before

More POWER Karl!! That is your problem......

I got mine welded for $20 when I busted mine earlier this year. I'd weld it if I was you. Have to take off the pipes and radiator, though. At least it will give you a chance to put some Water Wetter in it

Do yourself a favor don't carry a wheelie out at the strip past the 2nd to 3rd shift with the forks strapped and the bike lowered, even with a damper...

Muzzy Sidewinder and modded oil pan would be nice. Not sure who is selling the modded oil pans though.

Coby Adams is selling them I think. I saw one he made for Ryan, nice welds, and holds more oil than the stocker. Don't know his number - search on Adams Performance.

Bergie,
I don't like wheelies at all, and if I get em I short shift or chop. This was the first time I wheelied right off the line.

I'm thinking that maybe the wornout MCR2 had something to do with it (no give), once it finally hooked, it REALLY hooked.

Mike,
I'm going out the door right now, on the way to Argentina ("don't cry for me, Arg....."),

I'll be back on Thurs pm, but think I'll weld up my old one.

When I spring for yr cool pan, I prolly go to a pipe with more clearance, also.

Be on the lookout for yr package, you should get it the end of this week

At Gainesville, looking at the bike Loaned to Pierre (Highlands Racing), they had a 1/4 (Maybe 3/16) inch thick 4 inch wide steel Strap bolted on to the Oil Pan with a hole to remove the Drain Plug! (Now I know why it was so thick and heavy) The thing I wondered was how the top of the pan and case held up if the plate was slammed on the ground??

Another thing is that with as many runs and wheelies I have done over a life time, I also had a "Surprise" Wheelie at Maxton right after I changed from 18 / 47 to 18 / 44 gearing. The Bike went straight up so fast that it was 1/2 way up before even I could believe it! I also think this is what happened to ZX12Girl. ANYONE can be surprised and taken out of their game!!

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing that pan too Mike! Sounds like a definite cool thing to have. I ride my bike slammed quite a bit. I can't COUNT how many times I've hit bottem, hard. Have my drain plug protector is missing and I've had to take a Dremel to the plug TWICE, and eventually had to replace it!!

So, that's all well and good, but I want to know how we can protect our investment in that PIPE too!! I honestly think I'm down a few HP because of to semi-flattened pipes.

Anyone got any idea's on Pipe savior or am I shit-outta-luck? Can that flat spot be fixed?? Harry, you're the superman with metal working, where you at?

I think I'm going to start a thread with pics of my two dented pipes. One HMF, one Hindle.
