not really a new trick. Johnny cheese used to build my motors with that stuff.

The last time I had asked, everyone chimed in to go dry.I had also heard of taking the gasket apart and deburring all the edges but now that is frowned upon.

AA, 50 Torque is about right! remember, you are using a stronger bolt. I think of the Fastners as Stiff Springs! To make a spring work you MUST stretch it a littleso it will have tension. 43 does not have enough tension to stretch the spring. Also remember like any spring if you stretch it too far it will lose its tension. I had an engine that only leaked while racing. I sprayed everything with Arid Extra Dry (Powder) and went out to race. Then I saw it was leaking at the base gasket. Spoke to Reggie Pridmore who told me they had the same problems on the BMW's and found that the cylinders were lifting off of the GBase Gaskets around the Banking and they had to use a LOT Stronger studs to hold the cylinders on.

VH,that sounds like a lot of compression to lift the cylinders. Why would the cylinder lift off the base and not separate at the head? Was it the casing threads stretching and not the studs?

I always used K&W Copper Coat in can with brush on cap lid. Mix it until it turns color before applying. Never liked the spray. Always went where I did not want it :-)

My thinking is that Both Places were leaking but remember when the piston has just passed TDC and the explosion has taken place and something has to give, it is not the Rod bending, The Piston Compressing so you have the Crank Rotating and "The Cylinders Lifting" because you can see oil all around the base. Very little to do with Compression as opposed to the force of the Explosion in the Cylinder. Also the Bolts do stretch and this is what happens when they do. This was also in the late 70's and early 80's and the Studs were NO Where good as they are today.
