1 yr old FBG battery: flaky charging
Mike (or some other battery expert);
My bike has been out of action for a couple months and now the FBG battery is flaky, i.e. it takes a normal charge, building over an hour or so to full charge (at 6 amp rate), then a few hrs later, it needs a charge again????? WTF???
Do gel batteries go south like conventional batteries??? I thought it would last longer than a year????

Man did I tell you tu buy an Interstate or what....... shoulda listened. and to answer the question Yes they can go bad but they are very very durable! Take that battery down to the IABC store and have them run a cycle test on their annalyzer that might bring it back up, oh and it is not really a gel battery it is more of a Pure Lead design... also I would not charge that thing on a 6 amp rate, unless you had to. you really can get more out of them if you charge them slower.

Thx Mike,
The charger I have is a Sears with a choice of 2 or 6 amp charging rate. It has a guage which shows charging rate and %charge. As the battery charges the rate of amps gets smaller.
Q: can I use this type of charger to keep hooked up to the battery between races during the week to "trickle charge" it? Or do I have to buy a specific Trickle Charger???

Carl, I think the FBG batteries have their own chargers, but I cant see why a typical battery tender wouldnt work.

TB,
I didn't know about FBG batteries having their own charger I just ordered a new FBG Battery. Also ordered a BatteryDoc which is a $44 smart trickle charger.
Battery crapped out on me last night after ONE pass. This was the 1st pass on my new motor. My 1st pass every time to the track is a throw-away, and this was no different. So I didn't get to really see what it would do, although I did get my highest 1/8 mph ever (126.3), so the add'l hp seems to be there.

Mike,
I didn't know that IS had an equivalent to the FBG red one. My Bad mistake. Anyway, I am tooooooo damn impatient. FBG is getting me a battery to my house by tomorrow afternoon, so I can take the bike to Dallas for mapping on Wed.
BTW Mike,
now that the new engine is running, I can send you my old block. Just give me an address or I can send it to the 1700 Dixon Ave one that I have.

Holy crap... ONE HUNDRED TWENTY SIX POINT THREE miles per hour????? Did you get clearance for take off?
Thats flying on a "shakedown" pass. Fastest Ive seen in person on a 12 is 135 on juice! That mph on motor only is supa dupa fast! Now get a flyweight on there and see if it can go 135 on motor...lol

Flyweight??? hmmmm....
TeamFatAss does have its own Ethiopian Test Pilot, ZXALAN, who prob weighs 165 or so (TFA's minimum weight requirement is waived for Ethiopians). He did a few passes on my bike when it was stock and ran 4 mph faster than me. Good idea, TB!
