Brocks by Hindle SW

I got a used SW and stock oil pan in the mail today. Im trading Roger for my Hindle step tube and modified pan.

I noticed that the flanges arent a perfect fit. it feels like there is a very large bump in the short turn area. the top is much better because the pipe is turning. Im wondering if i should give the flange a chamfer(red arrow) ??

its been dragged on the very end from his bike squatting hard so Im going to flatten it out a little bit for extra clearance (like a ti winder) and cut it to copy Brocks new pro stock tip(shorter so more clearance). I dont plan on ever running a baffle anyway if it will polish up nicely thats how I will run it, but it may just get black header paint for this season, eventually ceramic coated

That's a very nice pipe, Scott.

I'm not sure that the spigots require any work? That general design is used on most all of Brock's pipes. The exceptions are the TiWinder and CT series. They use billet spigots and the pipe slides inside of the spigot. That way there is no restriction due to the smaller ID of the spigot as compared to the header. Unfortunately those systems use metric tubing, so you can't just use the spigots with a standard system. But you could copy the design.

You could probably even make them lighter, the billet ones are very heavy.

Just slash cut it..........

Mine is at the powder coater getting black ceramic coated now........

I would not mess with the pipe Scott, those pipes are proven to make good hp. It will hang just lower than a coby pan........, that is fixable in a couple hours, shaving the spigots, and headers just a touch.......,

I should have pics of mine in about 3 weeks, body is in paint now......, chassis is finished, and all the wiring is finished......., I would post of pic of my pipe, if I had it......, also, you can make another hole in the sidewinder bracket by the footpeg, and swing it up, thats the only way mine would keep from flattening out........

Good luck.

slash cuts are too harleyish for me. a turnout looks way nicer IMO
a stock head makes good power too, but a little work and it makes more. this is really just an extension of the exhaust port, and i wouldnt leave anything like that in the head

this shows what Im talking about a little better

thx for the pic Shane. I need to get the calipers out....

closer inspection shows that the pipe has been slightly enlarged to accept the spigot. most of this has happened on the "top" of the pipes which exagerates the lip on the bottom.

something tells me if these spigots were switched for larger ones it would be less restrictive on a ported head

Here is how my parts measured:

quote:

First, the Shortmeg header spigots:

Next the CT header spigot:

As you can see, the CT spigots are much larger. That is because the header pipes slide inside the spigot, instead of vice-versa. This eliminates any restriction.

In order for this to be useful, the CT header would have to be larger in ID than the standard spigots:

It is indeed about 2mm larger than the standard spigots. So, these new CT spigots will definitely remove a restriction. I imagine that this would really benefit a ported head or larger motor to an even greater extent.

Anyway, just wanted to give you an idea of the difference.

a little help from google
34.12 millimeters = 1.34330709 in
38.34 millimeters = 1.50944882 in
36.37 millimeters = 1.43188976 in

looks like the smeg uses pretty much the same spigot.

I got about 1.50 in for the OD of the part of the pipe that slides over the spigot.

As far as flow its not a problem. toy wouldn't even be able to measure it really. The real issue is the wave propagation in the pipe. But even then its not very much change in cross sectional area so it wouldn't be a problem.

But if you were to have a large change in cross sectional area either bigger or smaller it can reflect the pressure wave or reflect a percentage of it which will change the amplitude or if the area change is big enough it will change direction and sine. Like when it gets to the open end of a pipe.

I have been talking to Doug and Jim off this board, Jim says leave it, Doug says remove the small tubing for larger. brock pipe has 1.5 in od tapering to 1.75. Muzzy pro pipe has 1.6 tapering to 1.75. Doug says copy the Muzzy design to the Brock SW to get better peak power at the expense of low end.

Im totally confused who to go with
motor will be big with lots of nitrous....

something else to ponder, Brock used to sell big cc spigots, but had problems with them leaking. does anyone know if they were similar to the ones Shane has?
