temp gun

Has anyone ever had any experience with those cheap laser temp guns?

I just want something to check the temps on the pipes while troubleshooting and maybe even back tire after burn out.

- do asphalt work and company supplied use with Raytek mt4 with laser pointer and it was normally within 5 degrees of the bosses high dollar gun. You should be able to get one of those at oriellys. Sears also has a nice one for round 79. Think it does to 1000 degrees. But I can't be much help about the cheap ones.

to get a good temp off the headers you gotta put a pretty non-reflective surface on em,
hi temp paint (1200-1500F), black primer looking stuff works well.

Good idea or not?A mechanic told me he uses a torch to heat up temperature sensors and uses the gun to see when the desired parameter is met.
A little side laugh at what I did.I was measuring conductivity thru the coolant temperature sensor and the reading would not top out.The third person I questioned finally told me the correct answer. It was picking up the heat from my hand, hence the reading kept going up.
