OEM injectors @ 70psi

dyno results are in and i didn't get BEAR's positive results with OEM injectors @70psi.

hp tracked results of Bosch 430's @ 42psi up to 9,500, actually gained a couple hp at 9.0, 9.5.

But, from 10,000 to 12,250 the OEM's@70# lost 2-4 hp wrt the Bosch 430's

good news is the leakdown after dyno was respectable: 1.5 - 3.5 - 4.5 - 2.5%.
#3 seems to be slowly creeping up, but overall seems fine for next weekend's planned adventure in dyno-land.

thanks for posting Karl
so you used a Muzzy fuel pump and aftermarket FPR? was the oem unit removed from the rail, or did you just hook into the return line?

scott,
muzzy fuel pump, aftermarket FPR, OEM reg taken off.

shane,
hours? ...
i measure my motor life in wide open minutes on dyno + LSR, and this one is getting "old".
You gotta hear it under constant load at 12,250, 6-7sec with an open meg. Ears are still buzzing.

this motor seems to be holding up well, but really, my motors haven't failed since Jan 08+/- when i lost a valve. All my motor jobs since then have been "experiments".
If this motor craters next weekend at 13,000rpm i wouldn't be shocked.

I was just curious, Karl. I don't understand why the motors wear out so quickly...it makes me a little reluctant to build mine, to be honest.

I mean, I know your motor is relatively high strung, but I would think you could get a season out a motor. At what point do you cross the line?

If i didn't rev it so high, it would last forever.
but getting 240hp out of a 1427 ain't so easy...

at 220hp, no problemo, i just cut CR a bit, limit revs to 10,500; no problemo. last forever.

It'll be interesting when i do the forensics on this motor, it has been abused, and abused

For me (and i ain't no expert), the 12 came as a high strung motor, making 165-170hp with pipe & powercommander. Adding 70hp is stressing it quite a bit. Main issues are pistons and valves.

I find the relation to rpm interesting. Even at 12000 rpm with a 60mm the piston speed of the 12R is not much more than the new Busa at 11000 rpm. Perhaps that ultra-high compression plays a big role.

i hope its the CR, im leaning towards a stroker and 12700rpm, but cant afford to rebuild more than once a yr and race too

Karl, I might have another expirement for you if you are interested
first, how many holes are in the Bosch 430's ? I believe the stock 12 injectors are 4 hole injectors. if the Bosch 430's have more holes, that may be the reason for better spray/atomization? at the lower pressure.
higher pressure through a smaller injector with the same spray pattern(or better if you can find it) should be even better than the Bosch 430's?
possible next test subjects: 08 + injectors from the zx10r and zx14 are supposed to be 12 hole? (maybe better spray pattern than the Bosch 430's ??)

bosch are 4 hole, RC370's are 2 hole. stock are 4 hole.

I have tested: OEM @ 42#, OEM @ 70#, RC370 @ 42#, Bosch430's @ 42#

all are within 5hp peak, Bosch is clear winner.

i am done with injector tests.

my upcoming test protocol:
Nov: 13,300rpm rev limit,
Dec: uber big cams
Jan3 - Milemarker-1 event in Miami
Jan: a Jim uber-trick head

Hope the big cams and new head keep your HP climbing to 13,000+!

Maybe lightening the crank might help it spin up a little easier...............but you better talk to the people in the know.

1st test will be to see if hp keeps climbing past 12,300 on current set up

then i'll freshen her up a bit, install the uber cams, see what happens throughout the rpm range but especially at 11.5k+.

This is fukken time consuming but FUN!

Damn !! 13,300 RPM's on a stroker !
You are brave Karl
We are only spinning up to 12,200 RPM's.
Keep up the good work its guys like you who make the ZX 12's faster.

P.S. I think you should do all this testing after January 3, 2010
thats when the weather is a little better for testing.

Sounds good, Karl!

'Cept for that part about "trying" to blow it up... You've got me scratching my head on that one.

I cringe if I tag the limiter and feel bad about it for days. I'd take a shit in my pants if I blew it up! Haha

nah, not really trying to blow it up, just preparing for worst case.

I too, hate to tag the limiter.
