batteries and strokers
I was having a hard time trying to start the bike with 24vdc.I could only get 5-6 tries and the battery would be too dead to turn it over.Just for ha-ha's, I tried with just the single battery and no problems. It has started several times now with the engine hot. Naturally my bike finally runs and it is raining out, ce' la vie.
The secondary battery was new so I just don't understand why the difference.Karl and Jim were both getting more starts out of their system so maybe it is just a crap battery.

Pete, check the standing voltage of both batteries. You will notice one is lower than the other.
Charge them up.

Thats what gets me as I always put the battery tenders on after each use.

Check the standing voltage of each battery with the bike off and key off.
If one is low it wont start.

Entropy, you have timing taken out at idle, correct?I heard your bike start and it didn't sound like you have a full motor rotation and the engine was lit.I only have a Muzzy manual advancer so I'm wondering if that maybe the difference.I initially had it set at 5*plus and moved it back to 2 1/2* over stock.
Check the standing voltage of each battery with the bike off and key off.----- I did on the primary and was at 12.8.

Pete,
I guess you don't have a PC3r???? They ain't real expensive on ebay.
I don't remember what i have for adv at 500-2000, 0-2% throttle; i am guessing zero.

No I have one of those usb power commanders and I didn't want to pay $355 for the ignition module.I had a problem at the dyno and we thought it was the pc.The usb was all he had for my bike.I looked on ebay with no luck for a pc111.
Jim,I didn't measure that one yet because I didn't run 24v this time.Having the battery box on the side of my knee is a pia.

i looked at my ign adv map and i have:
-1 @ 500-1000-1500, from 0-100% throttle
0's @ 2000-13000 0-2% throttle
Pete,
my 2nd battery, brand new, is stable at 13V after a full slow charge
my primary battery, gelcell a couple years old, is more or less stable at 12.8V after long slo charge.
i think it's getting old bc V slowly decreases, or maybe i have some lil drain on it.

I noticed a difference on the voltage after going on a ride so I want to test out the charging system first before any new battery.I'm still concerned on how long it takes the bike to fire up,I can't believe that small a timin g change will effect it.

Sounds like both your batteries are fine. Any average battery is around 12.7 or so. One fresh off of a charger will always read higher than normal.

Pete,
maybe something else (other than battery) is causing yr motor to not fire up immediately.
prob a dumb idea, but as a lil test, why not put a pressure gauge on the fuel line to yr rail; make sure it is at 42-ish when you turn on the key before you hit the starter button.

I had my brother check the bike out when it started. While cold,it'll start but take a few seconds.Once it is up to temp and then shut down for ten minutes,it won't start. He seem to think it was overfueling due to the gas smell coming from the pipes.I have brought the fuel down via the external button on the USB all the way to the bottom and it still is too rich.Aside from disconnecting the PC111,what else could make this run rich?
Karl,I haven't put a gauge on it yet. What size tubing is it so I can get the right size tee and extra tubing?
