Bent Shift Forks?
I was wondering what the symptoms of a bent shift fork would be?
A few times this season I have had the bike pop out of gear, into the lower gear (or neutral). Now it is been only 3 times in about 150 passes...and I think that each time I simply stabbed the shifter too quickly.
At the same time, twice I have accidentally hit the air shifter when the bike was not running. I know this is not a good thing, and can bend the forks.
At any rate, are these forks removable for inspection without splitting the cases? If so, it would be a good thing for me to take a look at in the off season.

Shane, it may be possible that you bent a fork or shift shaft from the accidental hit of the button. when my 12 wouldnt stay in 2nd gear in 07 the forks were worn very badly(im guessing the same ones that came in it) and the gear dogs were rounded off. im not sure if the shift shafts were bent because i didnt bother checking, just went billet. Shift forks can usually be changed by just taking the oil pan and clutch cover off, but knowing you will be dragracing and doing more lsr(with a possibility of higher HP) it may be wise to split the cases and have the trans back cut @ R&D. does anyone offer billet shift shafts for the 14? supposed to keep damage to a min if you mis a shift or hit the button by mistake.
btw having the trans out would be a great excuse to do a 4mm stroker and stock bore nitrous pistons.

Yeah, they do make the the billet shafts. I actually have a spare trans here that I will send to R&D if I can afford it. A while back they quoted me $650 for the full trans (can't recall if that included the pro cut). I'm not sure I would get the pro cut since I still want it to downshift well on the street.
Right now I am just not sure what I can afford this winter. I might end this season early, even on the 9.00. Finances are not what they were last year. I'm going to be selling quite a bit of my spare parts very soon.
From the looks of these pictures I took last year, I should be able to at least partially inspect the engagement dogs by pulling the oil pan?:

Just looking to see what I can check out without pulling the motor.

shane i bet we can come up with some electric setup to arm your shifter only when the bike is on. like say pull the power for it from the fuel pump circuit after the pump relay. then no shifting when ecu sees the engine off. the coil is not a big amp pull at all. later maybe RR can give you a output to arm the shifter seperat if there are spare output/input wires on your ecu like the 12s have. i wish i could program this stuff. i am sort of good with PLCs at work but that interface is a lot different.

Shane- you can replace the shift shafts without splitting the cases, so I would assume you could remove the forks too.
Brocks sells billet shafts, but I wouldn't worry much, mine has done the same
several times usually me not holding the button too.
Still shifts consistantly when the driver does his job right.

Oh yeah, that would be no problem....I was just lazy when I hooked it up. I actually have a pretty cool setup in mind for this winter which will really improve operation.

That's good to hear; I really hate when it happens, it is pretty violent, as you know. I figure that if I don't split the cases I can at least do some inspection.
