battery
Are there different qualities of batteries?I needed a secondary battery for the 24v starting and ran to Walmart which had the right size for my box. I can only get a couple of tries before it just barely turns over.I went to make a few passes Sat. and it wouldn't start in the staging lane.Things were fine after putting them on charge.Supposedly there are only a few companys that produce the batteries for wholesale.Do they differ that much? Which should I get to enjoy the whole day in starting?

that's a MadMike question
my secondary is a $60 Interstate, and it doesn't last for a whole bunch of starts, so i charge it during the day.

Isn't there a 24V system for the Busa that is not constant loss? If so, I imagine it can be converted for use on the 12.

i run about the biggest battery i can fit in the box because of all the electronics i think i need. i actually had to hack up the tray, and oil the rubber strap to get it to slide in. i think its a Yuasa YTX20-BS. stock is a 14? fixed all my starting trouble, but then again i dont have a stroker like you. something else that helps is to unplug your head lights when running at the strip. dads bike still has the stock battery and it helped him
there are probly better lighter batteries out there, but i havent expiremented

Check out the harness assemblies here:

I'm sure you can adapt them, and they are fairly inexpensive. I think are some other products out there as well.

Pete,
Richard Sims (buddy of Doug Meyer) makes a 24V kit specifically for a 12 which charges the lil battery.
i have one on the shelf, just haven't gotten around to installing it.
I don't know who is marketing them for Richard, he sent me one directly.
I think Y2K has the connection for commercial sales
Scott,
Even a GIANT battery will not fix the starting issues of a big stroker, gotta go 24V

Interesting that when I went to the Interstate web site and looked under MSDS,the batteries are made by Yuasa.Might as well go to the dealer.

Speak with Jim regarding Richard Sims 24V system which charges the secondary battery and deals with the dreaded dead battery issue. He has this on his bike I believe. Karl have you not installed yours?

nope, haven't installed it.
I will, but am concentrating on the current tweak and don't want to complicate things

I have an Odyssey battery and it start my bike fine unless it gets real hot. Had to modify the battery box for it to fit. I don't have the part number here at work but I'll try to remember to get it tonight when I get home.

the odyssey PC545 is the same as the Fast By Gast... great battery, and just an fyi... just because someone mfg the battery for a company most companies have their own requirements, depending on market and customer requirements... Pete, give me a call tomorrow and I can help you out... I am pretty sure I owe you a favor...
you can hook a lead on the second battery in the 24v system and just use a trickle charger between the rounds. I do only have a standard battery in my bike but I know Karl and a couple of guys have had good luck with the 24v system...
