clutch hub
how often do the drag racers here typically replace a zx12r clutch hub do to the steels gouging into it and causing it to bind(slip)?
and what version are you using? oem (early or late)? Muzzy (drilled oem)? or some sort of billet piece?.... are there even any options for non oem pieces?

I get a new hub & steels every season...
I buy 2002-05 hubs.....The hubs Muzzy sells are the same but adds his drilled holes, I would get the Muzzy but he makes it difficult to buy, long wait periods AND not easy to get discounts on his stuff...

7 seasons on a stock hub......
New one going into my Hays clutch.
Forget the muzzy hub.
Forget the steels, you know the deal on that Scott, we have been over it.
Have both sizes to keep the stack hieght right, and thats it.........
Done.

its very simple to modify a stock hub the way Muzzy does, i did it to dads.
anyone know of a stronger piece? i seem to be pretty hard on them...

took my clutch apart tonight. after finding it grooved up sat, i filed it down, and this time even finished with sand paper to get it smoother than the last time i fixed the hub. it was working ok with the lock up sunday, but wasnt right....seemed very soft till the arms kicked in. but it was running good mph in the 1/8 and 1/4(unlike friday and sat) i actually warped a steel pretty bad friday and broke a big fiber. tonight i found 2 broken fibers (the big ones) one was close to the bottom and one was close to the top. and my hub is all gouged up from the steels again.
before i order one tomm, is anyone aware of a better than oem piece???? like say one with a steel splined section for the steel plates to slide on???

it worked for one wknd, but i guess it was just too much material gone to work again. i ordered a new hub. you cant even buy the A style anymore, the part number has been superseded by the 02+ style. ill copy the muzzy oiling holes like i did to dads when i get it and put it in.

Enlighten me on the area where the damage occurs
is it the protruding "fingers" where the dogs of the
plates make contact?
I'm not real bright .... Just trying to understand

yeah, its where the steel plates are splined on the hub. im wondering if this could be chromed?......(the rest would need to be machined off though so probly not worth it)
this is a pic from early in the yr, it was looking worse sat at the track, so i cleaned it up again, then by sunday afternoon it was fukked....

Again....... I'm not to bright but, I wonder if anyone tried to
hard anodize a hub. It is good for some aplications but I don't know
about this one.

"hard" anodize...... yep I just googled " hard anodized motocycle clutch hub"
it's easy to find one for a busa or an mx application

Reason it messed up, you gave it more and more gap, and the plates hit it harder and harder.......
Break down and buy a new one.......

Scott.. my 01 hub is full of the same ridges.. Was wondering when it would start to fetch up but it hasn't yet. Had my 04 apart and it didn't have those grooves in it at all and had way more runs on that clutch than the 01 bike....
