brake drag
so my front brakes are dragging terribly, its been getting worse and worse lately, i dont think its a bent rotor as there doesnt seem to be a tight or loose place in rotation. feels like the calipers are just sticking. can i clean/ resuse the seals or do i need to get all new internals?. Im 99% sure i have all the air out of the system. my bike is way harder to push around than dads. (i still went 154mph on pump gas NA today though )

I compressed the rear piston installed the pads and never pumped the rear to build pressure...
I wouldnt worry about the front...
You can losen up the front axle then retorque it 10lbs. less, same for the rear axle!!!...Dont forget to take the axles out clean them and grease them...

the rear isnt dragging, the front is a lot more than other bikes.... the wheel spins great with the calipers off(on the stand) its not bearings

It could be a hanging caliper seal or warped pad backing plates. If the seals are hanging, cleaning the calipers won't do much good. Even if there is an initial improvement, it won't last long. Cleaning the calipers and pistons (inside & out) and replacing the seals is the only way to ensure fix. Of course, replacing the pads is the only way to fix a warped backing plate. A very light coating of thin silicone grease will help protect the seals from oxidation.

Scott...I dont understand???
Your calipers are sticking causing the brake pads to have constand pressure on the rotors but you still run 154mph...Doesnt seem like its a problem with that mph???
Your dads bike is easy to push around but only goes 145mph???
Sounds like your doing extra work for nothing???

Scott,
my front & rear brakes to drag, but don't anymore.
take em all apart, remove seals, clean pistons & cylinders until no crud is left.
Fora a race bike? assemble without dust seals.
it's that easy, no drag.

CR, dad has a solid 65 pounds on me, doesnt do a proper tuck, and has a motor that makes less HP. I think mine would go 155 or 156 if we swapped brake systems, and his would slow down equally
Hey Karl, so are you saying reuse the inner seals, but dont put in the outer ones? how often do you need to take them out to clean them this way?
thx!

Scott, i'll bet you your mph would be higher if you retuned the way your bike is set up...Your front brakes are not the problem...
Suspention, clutch, riding tecnique...

You need to figure out what your riding style is and tune the clutch to your style OR change your riding style / tecnique...Change your suspention set up to that style.....Meaning: One needs to tune in to yourself first !!!
Anyone can tell you do it like this...But if your not like that then it doesnt work !!!
Start over but from the BOTTOM UP.....Not from the TOP down!!!

clean em in about a year, year & a half.
if the inner seals don't leak, no need to change them, but i replaced em out of general principles

Scott,
like CR says, i don't think you will pick up much, if any mph, as 154 is already flying.
BUT, i hate dragging brakes and the fix is soooooooooooooooo easy.
several years ago when i posted that i ditched the dust seals i caught a lot of flack, but as far as I can see there is no down side for a track bike.

Lots of truth here. Tune the bike to your riding style.
Also, changing stuff every time you go out, does not lead to a ton of gain.

the only change i did to the bike this time was soften the spring and compression a bit as it wasnt squatting down enough(and its still not) and i was not running a lock up friday or sat because the mail man didnt deliver on time. i didnt make any changes to the lock up from last time i was there when i ran it sunday, but it was too late as i cooked the pack running 6 muzzy springs. i even broke a big fiber close to the bottom of the pack....BUT i think it was from the hub being so rough... again...
