As it was explained to me,if the manufacture thought they could get an extra 2-3 hp out of the motor, don't you think they would have tweaked the cam timing by now?Do you think they degree every bike during production? I was under the impression that degreeing the cams only moves the powerband around, not increase it.

For me, it's easier to think of cam timing in terms of torque than in terms of power. Degreeing the cams moves the torque peak around and affects the shape of the torque curve itself, even if there is very little change to the maximum torque output value. If you have more torque at higher engine speeds because the peak has been shifted to the right or because the torque curve is flatter, then you have more power.

There is still a component of emissions control in the OEM cam timing, despite the higher efficiency of modern engine designs and the addition of fuel injection and catalytic converters. And production tolerances will absolutely affect something as tolerance-sensitive as cam timing.

if you are close to doing the cam timing at least do the first step and find where they are and write them down for future refrence. i am sure you do not want to move them with out knowing where you are moveing them from.
