new best on my 12

60------1.728
330----4.377
1/8-----6.496
mph---116.02
1000--8.332
1/4-----9.898
mph--143.60

this in on SWB lowered and 16t in front. to give you an idea of air conditions, there was a new busa and 14, both stretched about 9 inches, the quickest going 9.723, both running 138-139 mph. and the local turbo 14 has hit 147. kinda sucks, i was the quickest all motor bike this year until that 14 showed up and ran that 9.7. hopefully i can catch up by the end of the season and take back that title (on stock wheelbase ). i know the bike has more left in it. so far my best 60 is a 1.683 and thats not even lifting the front tire. what's limiting the bike is headshake. everytime it goes into second it starts shaking like a dog shitting razorblades and i have to roll off the throttle. needs a damper. bad. so if you got one, kick it my way as always, any input and advice is much appreciated.

Good job! What were the track conditions? Temp, RH, and altitude? What is your suited weight?

135 nekkid. by the time i was making the fast passes it was late and probably cooled down to around 80 degrees. i have to sandbag during the day because the track has some retared rules saying no bike can go faster than 10.00 in the street legal races so i won't even bother posting those times. i would be able to post humidity, but my friends weather station broke :\

next midnight drags will be in two weeks. im gonna try softening up the rear shock (still setup for +4 arm) putting the lower fairings back on, and filling the front axle with lead. hopefully it will help with stability issues.

les.....How low is the front?

You probably have too much pressure on the bars OR uneven pressure...Try to hold the bars as even as possible...

What year is your 12 and what mods?

Do you have the rear set up soft?

Rear OEM fender or tiget tail?

You foot shift?

You were probably at a DA of around 6500 or so feet. That is definitely pretty rough. Lucky you didn't run it at 100 degrees out!

My 12R was strapped, with a 60 series front tire. It would get shake occasionally and I ended up installing a Scott's damper on it.

I still never had a damper on my 12...The only time I got head shake was when it was on a small wheelie and came down crooked as I had uneven pressure on the bars...

Having the forks an inch above the top of the triple clamp will help alot...

If it is not lowered enough in the rear, it will be more inclined to head shake. That was the issue with mine when strapped. Rick's bike sits properly, but if you have a street height bike that you just strap down tight up front, you are inviting head shake.

the front is dropped 1.5 inches, no strap, 120/60 shinko. the rear is on the bottom hole of the links with a 190 shinko usoft @ 18lbs. stock undertail. air shift. lots of mods, including motorwork. i think the rear is too stiff cuz it only wants to shake after the shift. i think it needs to be softened up more so it can soak up the jolt from the shift instead of pushing it all back through the chassis. if i roll off and get back on it, no more shake, and no shakes through first gear either. wouldnt be surprised if its from not keeping even pressure.

You need to strap the front to prevent the forks from rising under throttle load then unload back to load...Thats why your getting wobble...

Check the under tail to see if the tire is rubbing...I would leave it if its not...If it is then turn the spring colar clock wise 1 turn and see if that helps...

im gonna have to throw some masking tape under the tail to check if the tire rubs. so pretty much keep dropping spring pressure until it touches, then back off a turn?

what about the strap? does it need a lot of pressure or just enough to keep the forks from extending past their static sag point with rider?

i wrecked my 12r on a tankslapper at the 1000ft mark. get a dampener. its 500 bucks or less will save you a lot more money if it is needed and you go down. if you can choose try to get a slapper at the big end so you do not get caught up on the rubber and flip and roll. everyone that went down in the first half broke a bone ot two so ride it out as long as you can.

2" trailer hitch tubing (rounded corners), some welding, and grade 8 hardware. each side is about 5 lbs empty. keep in mind this is TRACK ONLY. i ride down, throw it on, race, take it off, ride back. you can use you imagination about what would happen if you hit a pothole or bump in the road with these on. and no slamming down wheelies either
